"Hausmarke", Wool, Back Bow, 57 cm, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. The Crown Patch is missing because this Wool Soft Felt had a Crease Clip. It's possible the Crown Patch had a brand mark but not from the manufacture. This based on on a number of Soft and Stiff Felt Hats from with similar paper labels. I was able to recently solve one of the of these mysteries ( See https://germanaustrianhats.invisionzone.com/topic/15-berlin-gubener-hutfabrik/#findComment-5645 ) but not this one ( See https://germanaustrianhats.invision...h-no-company-mark-and-arbeits-no-paper-label/ ). I am pretty sure the hats came from one of the major Eastern factories that didn't survive WWII.

The Felt is a Charcoal Gray and is of a heavier weight. I kept the Off Center Crease caused by a now missing Crease Clip. The wider width Curled Brim has a triple stitched Over Welt with a taller Crown. The wide lighter gray Band has a Back Bow. This more Formal Style / Type of Soft Felt was popular in the time period. The overall all condition is very good. I very much like finding this old Wool Soft and Stiff Felt Hats because they were worn by the masses and saw more heavy wear.

I believe this is a Charcoal Gray because Black is marked a "0" Fabre / Color on similar Paper Label examples.

Very cool find, Steve. Nice style and always a treat to see one of those woolfelt survivors.

This one was part of a lot and a bit of a mystery as it was stuffed into a derby for who knows how many years.

“Best Beaver Guaranteed” from the O’Rourke, Eubanks Hat Co. of San Francisco, California. Circa 1924 to 1934 (based on the store name). I would lean towards the earlier part of that decade as the primary brand for this manufacturer was Castle Hats — they began manufacturing soft hats in 1919 after being a wholesaler, jobber, retailer for a couple decades or more.

Never know what to expect to find under a god-awful band like this. Turns out it was the original band in great shape. A little bit of steaming and brushing and this nice little 3x Resistol will look like new.

There is a saying, "everything old is new again." This is a proper Borsalino black hat, sold in Brooklyn, presumably to a member of the Jewish community. It's dated 2000 on the white cell label and, at 3 1/2" on the brim and with a shark gill bow, this has not been "in style" for the Jewish religious wearer for many years. Even there, styles come back around and I am ready! A great hat.

The seller correctly responded to my request to send me a photo of the size of this Cervo
Cervo American style 4.jpg

I was too curious to get my hands on this Western-style hat even though it wasn't wearable.
The hat arrived, and I was able to touch the felt and the workmanship of the "Cervo Bantam - American style" firsthand.
Cervo American style Interno.jpg
The felt is thick and sturdy, malleable but very firm once it has taken its shape.
The color is similar to butter, and there are no other indications because the complete manufacturing label is missing.
Cervo American style 7.jpg
There is only a small label that says very little. It's a shame, I would have liked to know the color of the felt, which is rarely used in Italian hatmaking.
Cervo American style 3.jpg
The nominal size is 58, but it's better to consider it a 57 1/2, as it fits a bit tight.
These are the measurements: the raw-cut brim is 7 cm, the crown at its lowest point is 12.5 cm, and the hatband is 2 cm.
Cervo American style 6.jpg

In good condition, it is one of the rare examples of Western style found on the Italian market, produced by one of the leading hat producers.

What a beauty, Steve.

The box with Habigs pre-war Berlin address and the polishing pad are the icing on the cake of that wonderful Top Hat.

I don’t hate when I buy an unknown sized Kevin O’Farrell (thinking I’m going to flip it) and it turns out to be a perfect fit … my wife on the other hand.

The other O’Farrell from this auction arrived.

This is the one that lost its shipping label and was sent back to the house in California where Kevin O’Farrell shipped it in 1998.
