From the Bill Kelso website.

Not listed as a RP but I’m pretty sure it is. You can’t zoom in to see the label but the D pocket shape is RP and it has the same back design as the RP posted recently. You can just barley zoom in to see the buttons and they are the same as seen on many RPs.

Here are the buttons on all 3 of my RPs

Also for the Kelso website. This one is listed as a RP so I’m assuming the label says so. Very similar front to the RP made JC Penney labeled jacket I posted and an identical back design.

AHP91 posted this jacket in Finds and Deals. It seems to be a very common design. This Top Notch is kind of rare since most I have seen are by King-O-Wear

King-O-Wear made these until I think the 60s. You can find later KOW with Coats and Clark zipper but this one is an early sample with 40s Talon zipper.

That RP wool is a excellent example of RP working outside of leather. As the label says; Leather and Cloth Sportswear. Somewhere around my house I have a pair of RP work pants.

The oldest ads of RP are for clothing; leather, rubber, cloth, hunting and outdoor wear. These ads go back to the 1920s and feature the use of rubber products for wet weather use.

Short timeline:

1918 Ralphs-Pugh incorporated

1920 Ralphs-Pugh selling Rubber clothing.

In 1929 the conveyor belt is mentioned.

1920s-1940s Various Ads for leather and cloth outerwear in Western papers.

1954 Last ad found for RP clothing.

Clothing was not a sideline for the company it was significant part of the company from day one. Leather was one material they worked with.

I have yet to buy this style of jacket. As you said, they are common and to me a little boring. KOW is a popular label in this style. I've been tempted by many like this, very plain and dark. I had a Real McCoy redo that was too small yet very nice.

I would probably buy this RP wool if it was easier to buy. Given RPs quality I would say this is a good as quality as you will find in this jacket.

I wonder where all the patterns are.

I would guess destroyed, like the memory of the clothing production. There would have been paper goods; catalogs, contracts etc. I would guess all gone.

I last contacted the company 3 years ago. Making jackets for Abercrombie and Fitch was mentioned by the owner, He seemed to have little other information other than the 50s catalog I posted above.

I plan for another contact soon. They were interested in learning more of their history. I will include a link to this thread.

There is a sold jacket on their page with a Wards label and a California Sportswear tag, that looks identical to a RP jacket I own. My jacket is probably in this thread. I will try and post both for comparison. I'm confused!
