The suit was made by Tom Brown, Hanover SW1 London and Eaton, dated 1960 I have just worn it for the Goodwood revival where this photo was taken.

After several months of bargain-hunting, my black tie ensemble is complete. Instead of the abominations that most wear to prom, I decided to go with a worsted Spencer jacket with matching trousers, a nice turndown collar shirt, black tone-on-tone self-tie bow tie, black silk ***merbund and patent leather oxfords.


On a side note: I hate camera flash.

I picked this suit up on the 'bay recently. The dodgy pictures combined with a low(ish) stating price and no reserve were enough for me to take a gamble. What does the sage advice of the FL's learn'd gents say regarding age?

I don't know enough to give an opinion based on those photos, but I do know it's a splendid fabric.

I hope it is an early one.

Nice fabric. Weird jacket cut. Cut down lapels?

The trousers seem older in style than the jacket. Were 5 to just find the trousers I'd confidently say 1930s. But parts of that jacket have a very 1950s cut.

I've had another look at it, in particular the lapels:
The right lapel looks like it is curved at the top rather than meeting at a sharp angle &
The left lapel looks like it bows out slightly just above the buttonhole.

That makes me think BK might be right and the lapels have been cut down. That said, the buttonhole looks quite well done (which hasn't always been the case on other cut down lapels I have seen).
And the pictures don't help!

I'm glad to see the same things pop up on our radar, i.e., those lapels balanced against the pants. When it arrives I'll let you guys know. Regarding narrow lapels; have any of you ever seen older items made by early forerunners of the Ivy League look? I recently bought a late 20s/early 30s linen suit made by Brooks Brothers from a long-gone-lounger. that suit has quite narrow (unmolested) lapels. When I spotted this, I wondered if this might be something similar.
