The Higbee Company, Cleveleand. They used to make hats as well and ended their operations in the 1980's after a buy out by Dillard's (that's what I read in another thread somewhere in the hats forum).

Aha! I own that hat now. That's where I recognized it from.

My friend's 1933-'35 belted back suit:

Good ol' Tony....I found that suit for him last year...& what a find it was...it was quite a surprise to me when I got the suit in the mail & the plaid was so prodominate & the fact that it had an NRA tag, made it even better...all he needs is a haircut & a good ironing & he'll be all set!

Weird -- I thought I posted this a night or two ago, but if I did, it went in the wrong thread.

Here's a suit I don't wear so often, but I do like it. It's got a 1949 union label and a very subtle black-on-black (it's actually a dark charcoal) vertical stripe in the weave.

Thanks, but I'm afraid it's less about my ability to track down great finds and more about my lack of willpower to resist purchasing everything that can tailored within an inch of its life to fit me.

But I too think the DB is a nice find, thanks, though it was pretty pricey, I have to admit.

My wife and I make vintage shopping a part of every trip we take outside of NYC, and it usually pays off.

WooHoo! Big lapels! Big cuffs! And plaid. Yes, very plaid. Those who take their suits seriously will prolly think this is a dreadful, silly suit. Not me. When I spotted it in the thrift store yesterday, I knew it was meant for me. And when I tried it on and found that the fit was perfect, I didn't hesitate to part with the $6.99 it took to acquire it. It makes me feel like I should be a racetrack tout or maybe the leader of the criminal element in a small industrial town in the Midlands. It definitely makes me smile...

I have a Red Ryder. Its a lever action one but no bells and whistles like the compass and time keeper.

Could anyone estimate a date on this suit on eBay? Here's the item number: 270548824130 I'm thinking early 60s, but not late 50s continental because of the extra-thin lapels-but the (I forgot the word) whole fit is high, the buttons, armholes, waist, etc.

I'd say it looks older.

I'm going on a limb here saying late 30's to late 40's.

I don't know about the skeleton lining but I've never seen or heard of it being in 50's suits.

Really nice fabric there.

Sproily...sorry for the delay, but I wanted to make sure that the auction was over and the suit mine before I answered.

It's not German, it's US made.

And yes, it was the fabric that first sold me on that suit - plus the fact that it has some really long pants. I'm all legs, you see... I hate to sacrifice cuffs, but sometimes I don't have another chance. With this one I think I could at least go with false cuffs.

It will need some work anyway.

middle to late 50s. A nice fabric, certainly; I can't say i'm much of a fan of the jacket cut from that era.
