There have been nice ties, lately. Here are two of my newest ties:

1. The seller dates this wool red plaid tie to either the 1920s or the 1930s, due to the length, width, and a lack of facing. I am not sure which is correct, but it seems to be an older tie. The length is 50" inches long, with a 3 1/2" width. I've been meaning to get a plaid tie, and this looks like a good start.

2. This 100% acetate one by JC Penney's is a 2" late '50s or '60s narrow tie, I assume. The length is 52". On the backside, it states Woven in France.

Good ones the Good. The 60's tie, although not my preferred era, is wonderful. It oozes the spirit of high modernism.

Thank you. Those are very nice ties as well, Fastuni. I like both the solid and the geometric tie, which has a nice pattern.

Nice finds The Good and Fastuni. It's always a joy to stumble across them in the thrifty or the flea market. It seems (here at least) that they're getting scarcer and scarcer. I'm not averse to doing it, if the tie is sweet enough, but paying top dollar in a vintage shop is not as satisfying as finding them in the field.

And unfortunately (or fortunately, for my budget) the nearest decent vintage shops are a 2 hour drive from where I live.

Here's one I managed to find yesterday, American I guess which is an unusual find in the UK at least I've never seen one for sale especially in a charity shop, ideas one age and material would be appreciated, length is 49" narrow end 2" wide and the business end is 3", feels slik like silk or rayon though no label but there was a small one under the 'Penney's' label but only the stitched in end remains sadly;

Very nice ties! Today I wore my Sergio Valente tie, which I think to be of the late '50s or '60s era. The tie is not quite green at all, but with a dark grey background and lighter shades of blue-grey strokes across with small white or red geometric patterns.



Here are two other recent pictures. The first is of a vintage Beau Brummell military tie made possibly during the early 1940s. The second one is my modern custom made grenadine tie by Sam Hober, the midnight blue color.

Nice. The Sergio valente brand only dates back to the early 80s, but the fifties had a huge influence on fashions of that era. It is pretty snappy looking, though. Would you mind posting a close up of the pattern?

I had a couple of s.v. ties back in those days. Probably still do, packed up in my mom's basement. May try to find them next time I visit. They'd be about the only thing from back then that would still fit.

And it is also a Hollyvogue. Geez, I wish they were still around to make some decent ties today. The new tie racks now are a vast wasteland of boring and even more boring. No wonder tie usage has waned over the years with the junk they have to choose from. No chance for individuality. :doh:
