Well this is my opinion, for whatever that's worth. I've seen one at the local hat shop and tried it on, and I wasn't impressed. The crown is too low and tapered for my taste (I have a very square head so it makes me look ridiculous), and it's made out of Chinese paper straw (shantung), which I'm not really digging for $100+. The brim is 2 1/2", which is ok, but honestly, you could get two Cuenca Panama hats in much cooler blocking styles for that price from Panama Bob, or Panama Hats Direct.
Agreed! The only issue in terms of function is water. The Stetson will be better able to survive a rainstorm than a paja lid. But definitely doesn't look as cool as paja.
