Summer Hats

As a hat-wearing rookie, I need some advice on what makes a good summer hat. The only lid I own (grey felt, 40s-style fedora) seems more like a cooler-weather hat to me. Works great with the suit and tie I wear during the winter.

In spring and summer, I generally dress down when going to work (golf shirt, sport coat). The grey fedora seems a little formal with this outfit. I have a Panama on the way, and that should be perfect, but I'm looking for a backup, for variety. What are reasonable options? Lighter weight felt in lighter colors? Some other kind of straw?

What do you guys recommend in a warm-weather hat?

Well

See the other posts here about straw hats, which are beautiful ...

I can't wear a felt in summer as the temps are too high, except when the fog rolls in ...

this is the Bay Area BTW.

"Mark Twain said the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer day in San Francisco" . We get cold fog.
