I had the same problem ended up with 2 large fitting caps...
HaHa Johnny bought them he is a size bigger than me...

But no comparison to Johnny J 's Or Simonds caps
there fabric has a small polyester content.
I do like mine though

Really check out Johnny's cap's They are much better than the Retro Sport one's. As you can get one in a fabric you want and not just what they have in stock.

Has a puffy body but not that annoying mushroom you find on modern caps
so this might be early 30's

Great caps Seabass. Watched Gene Kelly in Singing In The Rain and saw a short clip of this great cap. I never noticed it before. I would like to have one of these great caps he was wearing.

These look so good.
I was thinking of doing this with some fleck slacks for kids.
I could revive them into a baby blue fleck cap!

Damian,
I am so tempted to do the same, well I mean sending to Johnny J or Simonds.
Sorta like organ donating & giving things a 2nd chance

I just recently sold a Ricky Jacket like the last grey fleck in my post with identical fabric it had a black Gab inner that was a 2 for one Jacket.
would have been a cool set.

The Cap maker only had 1 of each cap fabric made.

Please post your Caps !

Well I got a messed up cap and decided to deconstruct it to make patterns out of it.
It was so easy!

I have been going to thrift stores and finding dollar wool jackets to make the caps or just raw linen (very Great Gatsby, Im told)

I had no idea what to do with those slacks and now I know.

when i get a old cap,
I do steam i use a Jiffy hat steamer which directs the steam up & leaves both hands to get to buisness,
But not lots of steam
the wool dampens quick & can get mushy compared to a Beaver fedora..
I always stay away from any leather sweats (learned the hard way) but i do flip em inside out first & lightly steam & more on the exterior.
than i place cap on a hat block & iron at wool setting.
I learned this from my tailor in SF who made me a bunch of caps. & this works great on new caps
so its a finishing touch for new caps as well, really brings the body out well & straightens those crooked bills
