Here is info on the BB finishing machines that were installed at Hat Corp of America in the late 1930s.

Is it the building on the left, the one not so "far from the madding crowd"? How many women showed up for "tomorrow's shopping program", one wonders.

Great old copy, Robert!

Smaller scale than the hats of the latter 20's and 30's. Why c. 1922? The logo trademark reads first used in June of 1922. The Detroit Capper & Capper opened in 1915 and the St. Paul Store, not on this sweatband opened in 1921. Sweat is a bit too delicate to expose the factory sticker without damage.

Because I only have a dark grey, chocolate brown, and a couple of straws, I had been looking for a light colored vintage felt for a while now. However, price and size were both limiting factors. I have a rather popular sized head, but hard to find sized hat of 7 1/4 LO. I was always skeptical of thin ribbon fedoras, I liked how they looked in the illustrated advertisements on slick-dressed guys in suits, but in real life I always thought they looked to "western" or "country". I'm not a western person; I'm city all the way. But, when I saw this on eBay, listed as a 7 1/8 for a buy it now price of $20, I knew I should take a chance. I figured I could experiment on stretching it for 20 bucks.

Well, I received it yesterday, and wouldn't ya know, it fits almost perfectly. It's been loved (needs a good cleaning), and obviously someone tried to stretch it considering the sweat stitching has completely ripped open, but it looks great on. Anyone care to make a guess on age? I looked through the thread to educate myself a bit more on dating Dobbs hats, but I'm still unsure. Thanks, gents.

That's a very nice thin ribbon you have there Twill and I think it looks great on you. Even though you're a "city person" you live in the South and that hat should fit in fine there, especially with the lighter color. I have a Westward but it has a shorter crown. I suspect yours is 50's vintage, but some of the other hat experts may have a better fix on the age. Enjoy!

Thank you, sir. I was thinking 50's as well. Would you suspect early or late 50's?

Good Morning

I need a little help if possible, I posted my problem in the "Ask a question, get an answer" thread "post # 5080".
Probably the wrong place since this is a Dobbs question. Could anyone put an approx. date on this.

Thank you
OB

Hi OB,

The seller is pretty accurate. It dates from the late-'40s through early- to mid-'50s. Looks really nice!
