I had some Dogfishhead 90 Minute IPA on tap at the local pub last night. Damn good.

I had an interesting Corsican beer last night, and when I get home tomorrow morning, i'll check the bottle and post the name here. [edit, the stuff is called Pietra. I note in the store they also had a blonde beer. Not being one for blondes (now now, calm yourselves) I didn't pick one up.]

Included in the recipe was chestnut flour, which was why I bought it: it sounded odd enough to be interesting. It certainly was! Very christmassy; the beer smelt like Charles Dickens' London street chestnut seller. Smoky and chestnutty; a very strange flavour for a beer, but it worked. It was amber-ish and quite light but deceptively strong at 5.4%.

Cigar City's Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout. The blackest, oiliest, richest stout I ever had! It actually left what looked like used motor oil on the sides of the glass. Not very hoppy like North Coast's Old Rasputin, Or Stone's Imperial Stout, but still full of flavor. I recommend.

Haven't read all the pages of this thread, but for me, the oldest brewery in America is still the best, Yuengling lager, Pottsville, PA.

I've had the Stone version of this. It's intensely herbal, almost astringent. Had with herb-roasted chicken. Delicious.

Yes. That's not to say I don't enjoy others like Bass Ale and New Castle brown, but for an everyday beer, I like Yeungling.

I don't like beer that A. you can see through, and B. overpowers the food I'm enjoying it with.

But like everything else in life, to each his own!

I only drank the generic beer brands until earlier this year when the mrs and I decided to have dinner at a small brewery in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia.....never again shall I drink the rubbish main stream beers!

Hands down favourite was the Red Truck Porter, an English heavier beer: see article below for description

R-fish, when in north Jersey seek the Climax growlers. The MOST balanced beers I ever tasted. The brewer converted his pops old machine shop to his brewery. Fabricated the brewing and bottling equipment himself.
Well worth the trek.

I have real issues paying $10-$11 for a four pack of beer... DFH is good, don't get me wrong, but it's not worth $3 bucks a bottle...

You might want to check out Mendocino Brewing Company's Imperial Series. I had their RIS last night. It tastes like a cross between a traditional RIS and an American Strong Ale. Very smooth, complex. Really wonderful.

I thought one was owned (controlled?) by the other. As in Lost Abbey is owned by Port Brewing.

Anyways, I had the Brouwers Imagination #2 (a soured brown at about 9%ABV) this past week. Brewed for Brouwers by Port Brewing. Nice balance. Good complexity without being overly sour. Split the 750 with my son while sitting at the bar (at Brouwers, of course!).
