Knowing the history of the hat and it's previous owner really helps make that hat a treasure. Priceless. Thanks Anthony... as you know from experience, those pre-war Stetsons are special and specialer still when they survive virtually unworn. The owner apparently died in 2004 (unusual name helped to find the obituary). He was a WWII veteran and then spent his working life as an accountant. Clearly he kept his stuff in order, as did his family after him.
The owner imprint is exceptional. I don't know if I have seen such an elaborate and elegant personalization service before. He must have been quite young when he purchased this hat - or perhaps (more likely) it was purchased for him as a gift during his college years. To make a custom debossing die would not have been a trivial expense... especially for a five dollar hat.
John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Hey Pat, the "*******s on Parade" thread is a bit more exhaustive.
These would have been sold open crown and shaped to the wearer's preference.
