I just picked up this Vanson Chopper on eBay for a reasonable price. I’m quite happy with the fit and thought I’d share some pictures. I’m including fit pics with my shirt tucked (to see where the jacket falls on my pants) and untucked (how I actually wear it).

This is the Thurston Bros version of the Chopper in Competition Weight cowhide. It’s a beast and I’m looking forward to breaking it in. I’m very happy with the craftsmanship.

For those curious, I’m 6’1”, 175 lbs., with a 39” chest and wearing a size 36. I’ve never even considered trying on a size 36 jacket, but the seller (who probably is on here, for all I know) provided measurements which let me know this would give me a nice slim fit. I don’t ride, so the sleeve length works for me; though I suspect they’d be a bit short on a bike.

Lastly, if this is the wrong place to post this, please let me know. I’ve read countless threads on TFL but only posted once a year and a half ago. I usually get to threads from Google, and feel pretty clueless about navigating the actual site.

Aye, absolutely on point on all accounts. I'm super biased toward Chopper as it's one of my fav styles by Vanson, it fits you as it's supposed to, slim tho not even close to sausage casing. 10/10. Boots are fire too.

Thanks. It’s my favorite style by Vanson too. I can’t tell you how many times I looked at it on Thurston Bros’ site.

Jacket looks great open and closed! No need to tuck in your shirt. Looks good both ways imho.
Oh don’t worry; I wouldn’t go out with a t-shirt tucked in. Not my style.
The last time I sought advice on here about the fit of a jacket, I was scolded for not tucking in my shirt so people could see where the jacket fell on my jeans. I learned my lesson. :)

Thanks. Is that a Chopper with the brass hardware I see in your pic?
Yes it is. I ordered this jacket directly from Vanson, it is their standard Chopper in Comp. weight. The only real bummer about it is that unlike Thurston Brothers, Vanson only offers the Chopper in S-M-L-XL sizing. A size 46 Vanson fits me perfectly but I had to select the XL, which is closer to a 48, because the L would’ve been too small for me.
Here is a shot of my custom Octagon Chopper that I received in October. This one is a 46.

That’s quite a statement there! Congrats on being able to pull that off. Here’s a fit pic from me (18 months ago or so). If the jacket was any tighter, I couldn’t raise my arms at all.
It’s a bold pattern and a tank of a jacket. Mine is the (relatively) new comp weight and I just don’t think it breaks in as nicely as the older stuff.

Thanks! I'm surprised by the amount of movement I have in it, given the tightness. With everything I'd read about the comp weight leather, it's more supple than anticipated. It feels less stiff than a CXL Steerhide Schott I have. Looking forward to breaking it in fully.

I read a post on here from Carrie @ Thurston Bros about the comp weight leather and how it can change noticeably from batch to batch. I haven't handled another one for comparison, but I feel like I lucked out with this one. I'm curious what characteristics yours has that you find less desirable than older batches of comp weight you've handled?
