Waterproofing a straw hat

Can anyone offer advice for waterproofing a straw hat?

I just got back from Bencraft on 236 Broadway in Brooklyn (What a selection, and really nice guys too!) I didn't think to ask in the store and I didn't have a cell to call back.

Maybe someone has done a treatment of some sort to repel water. I'd like to hear about it and how it came out.

Thanks,
Chris M.

I've heard some people use Scouts and some use Scotchgard...I'm sure you'll hear from both sides soon enough...or do a search here for rain protection...

Yep I use and have used both, with no ill effect to any of my straws. Both vintage and new have taken the treatments fine, the only thing is you will need to re-treat every so often.
