Thanks Slim! That's a great compliment to get from you: I'm quite a fan of the outfits you put together. Often unusual (unorthodox, even?) but always elegant and stylish!
Ha! That's my kind of compliment! lol

Ok, I'm caffeinated and the light's good enough now to get a couple of flashless photos outside!

Close-up of the fabric itself. You can't really see it in this shot, but there's a very faint stripe of yellow that runs between each light blue stripe. There's one that bisects the lapel's buttonhole, towards the outer end, if you stare at it hard enough:

Unfortunately, that wonderfully convenient tag that every vintage suit seems to have (tailored for so-and-so on such-and-such date) is, per usual, left blank, so I don't know when exactly in the '49-'62 continuum this suit was made. My guess is rather closer to the '49 end, though, and for obvious reasons. You'd think people back then would've been more considerate for those of us who insist on wearing their hand-me-downs sixty years later, but I guess it didn't occur to them ;)

Today is, from the top down:

  • "Gambler" / "Plantation" style Panama
  • Shuron Ronsir Zyls (Cordovan plastic over gold-plated metal)
  • TU Clothing (Sainsbury's Supermarket's own-brand clothing label) short-sleeve shirt, in a very 50s style large-check pattern, shaeds of white and light green (reminds me of a table cloth my grandmother used to have bak in the 70s - it was old then, so probably it was of late 50s or very early 60s manufacture)
  • Wested Indy Trews
  • Cognac and orangey-tan handmade, bespoke spectators that I bought in Beijing last month

Oh... and I'm also wearing a cotton / linen blend M&S two-button blazer

I finally got a petticoat and i'm actually wearing it today. To work, probably one of the few times i've actually worn a dress to work. And I feel like a lady. I feel pretty and feminine and i like the swooshy sound it makes.

A fantastic outfit CaptainB. I'm glad you don't wear a plain black tie which would IMO ruin it (I had a massive argument about why plain black ties cannot be worn for socialising with a friend of mine so sorry about the remark). I like the red on the coat tying in with the tie.

Thank you for the compliment! I too think that a plain black tie would have ruined this particular outfit, but mainly because I think it wouldn't have fit to the shirt. I don't have anything against plain black ties in general, the right combination can make it look really good - I also like the all-black look from time to time

Best regards,
Captain B

A great look, CaptainB - I'm especially enamored with that red-trimmed coat. What is it, where did you get it, and can we see more pix of it?

Thank you very much, Warbaby!
I'm afraid I can't take any photos of the coat at the moment because it's at the tailor's (getting the sleeves shortened). I will do this as soon as I get it back!
It is an Austrian police coat, probably from the seventies (so I was told), but I have to do some research on that - a similar style was worn by the Austrian army as far back as World War I.
I saw the coat in a small militaria shop on my way to university and hat to buy it, as it only cost 40 $.

Best regards,
Captain B

Had to be a little versatile yesterday, so wore my favorite red 'navy' dress and a bespoke jacket with red trim. Black flats for work, white slingbacks for after work (the usual old pics..)
