Hi all! I was just wondering what name you would choose if your real name is too modern. I would pick Lydia Mae, which is what I would've named my baby if he would've been a girl. His name is Nova.

What about last names too? Our last name begins with an L so Lydia would have flowed nicely I think..

Hello!
My name is pretty universal and seems to fit just about everywhere I live...

But I could do the 'MovieStar or (PornStar)' trick and use my first pet's name and Mother's maiden name and become 'Sylvester Palmer'.

I have some Italian ancestry, our baby is hopefully going to have a strong Italian sounding name but we live in Scandinavia so must have a name which doesn't sound too 'weird' locally- hopefully something that also embraces my Wife's North Indian culture.... shouldn't be too hard...

baby Name Contest for the BT Boy

Indira Sabattini?

My youngest has a strongly Italian name. Then the darn thing turned up in "The Sopranos" badly pronounced, and now everyone says it wrong. The nits.

Never thought of an alternate name for me.

I've always been partial to the name Drusilla from Reap the Wild Wind. I also really like the name Tabitha, but I already gave my cat that name. :) Which would make my pornstar name Tabitha Russell. I don't know if it sounds very pornish....more movie starish...I like it . :)

Ethel Mertz is a great sounding name BT.

Thanks BillyBob, it was on my shortlist along with Agnes Moorhead...

It's surprising how many Indian names and Italian names sound similar- same with other nations too. We just want to avoid Indian names like Pinky and Luvly...
We're thinking Bella and Marla, Gema, Pia(typical Danish name actually) ...
maybe Neroli....
I had a friend back in NZ, named his first daughter Caprice... nice name I thought- then came the second daughter, Chevelle.... hmmm... Malibu anyone?

We're possibly moving to Sweden later on, so have to allow for Swedish pronunciation too...

If I had another daughter...

I'm nuts about the name Tovalina. Heard it too late.
My youngest is Adriana. Everyone says Aydreeanna. Makes my teeth hurt.
My firstborn, by the way, was "India." Always a special place for that name in my heart, as she passed away.

That's sad Scott...

Maybe you should make a trip to India some time... a pilgrimage of sorts...
...I'm going back next year or maybe at the end of this year for the cold Delhi winter... it really does get cold there in the north for about 8 weeks- they have about 44C/111F today... phew! India is fantastic.

When I was about 8 yrs old, I tried to encourage my friends to call me Max-
I hated my name (Martin) then.
Max never stuck though...

'Marla' is at the top of my list nowfor a girlie name.

What is too modern? are we thinking names from the 20-40s?

Coming from a 100% Irish family - All the girls have the first name Mary.
We all go by our middle names, But It's a generations old tradition that hasn't been broken yet (With the exception of a couple Reginas and Maries, which mean the same thing) This seems fairly old-fashioned to me, and Mary is a timeless name.

I go by a nickname, Cat (for my middle name, Caitlin) and that happened to be my last pet's name (I wasn't feeling very inventive.)
I also hold my mother's maiden name, So If I was to go into movies (or porn), My name would stay exactly the same ;)

I always liked Evelyn or Regina though.

I have always liked the name Ursula, although if I have a daughter I am not sure that she would be happy with it. Astrid is also a great name for a girl.

My sister was almost named Nordica, something which she is glad never happened.

So if I understand correctly...

One's Porn name is the first pet's name + mother's maiden name?

Oh dear. I'm..

Mitzy Stucky!!!

Bwuahahahaha!

Ok, I might as well put one in here. Since I lucked out and got my name, my mother was ready with a Cynthia for odd chance that a girl was born. ;)
Interestingly, my family has a tradition of giving the first born son the middle name of Paul. I have it and so did all of the previous generations. It makes it easier since you do not have to put numbers behind your last name like Thurston Howell the Third. :p
For an Italian first name---Leonella. Other first names: Helen, Winifred, Winonna (my aunt almost ended up with this 80 years ago) and Mamie. :)

Regards to all,

J

I ended up with Christian, which works well with my German last name. It is a perfectly fine "period" name, although it is not very WASPy.

It works out really well for WWII German reenacting because I don't need to make up a name to use.

Two names I love (and named my daughters by them) are Anais and Simone.
Anais, I came up with that one about three hours after she was born (I really had no clue!) and my husband picked the name Simone, after his sister. Plus he likes French names. I'm so glad he didn't pick a traditional Dutch name (he is from Holland). A lot of them are horrid, and hard to pronounce correctly!

Yeah.. I'm already getting the cracks about Nova's name! lol

Well I guess my "porn" name would be Smokey Boyle! EWWW!! Not very pretty at all, much less feminine!

Hmm..I've always heard people say my name is interesting...I'm John Cole Weston. Variations people have suggested sound like something:

1. J. Cole Weston-Lawyer. (This is what I go by, but I'm a graphic designer).
2. Cole Weston- Cowboy
3. JC- Overweight Pin-Striped Suit 1930's Company Chief. :)

Considering Cole is just a shortened form of Nicholas, perhaps it's just a little off of vintage?
