Wow, this thread was about to slip off the front page. Can't have that now, can we? ;)

Here we have the Akubra Capricorn, arrived two days ago from Oz. It's a polypropylene "straw" hat, I bought it as the "nearest to sweat proof" Fedora style I could find. I didn't expect to like it. I was wrong, I do. It's comfortable, good looking, and I can wear it without fear of heavy sweating in high heat, or even rain storms. Worst damage I could see is potentially having to replace the band if it gets badly sweat stained (I doubt it). I really like the bound edge.

I presume this means the body was manufactured elsewhere (Asia I'd imagine). No worries, wasn't like I was concerned whether or not it came from Ecuador ;).

This is in Fawn color, which was in stock at Everything Australian (the only of 4 colors without a 3 month wait there), and the price was $7 Aus. less than Hats Direct (who list 2 colors, not sure what is in stock).

The above pics were taken without flash. Below is one with. The real color is about midway between the two IMO, I'll try to get some better natural light shots soon.

Wearing my Fawn Capricorn today as well. Along my grey Capricorn and Rink (cream color but identical to Capricorn), these three hats get lots of wear during the hot summer months, especially if there is any chance of rain in the forecast. Now one guesses they are plastic. On bright sunny days I revert back to my Panama Bob hats.

I found this Stetson XXXXX on ebay. I'm debating weather to convert it, or leave it as is and sell it. I did my best to give it a dry bash, (Tom Mix) look. Great color and love the grosgrain. What y'all think?

I don't wear a western, but I think you should keep it as is. Good pick on the bash as well.

Besides if you convert it , you will have to hide a lot of the felt in a crease in the top. That crown looks to be over 6". Just my thoughts

My latest ebay grabs came yesterday. First is an Akubra Drover. I think it is an older model because it does not look like anything what is being sold in OZ or David Morgan.

It is a light brown or fawn I guess it's called with a dark brown binding.
Next is a hat that I have not seen much here it is a Worth Walden Hat Company of Dallas TX. It is a nice hat light green with air vent holes. Have not figured out what to do with it yet. Steam it brim down or have the brim formed to I can wear it fedora style or put a puggaree on it and make it a safari hat. Anyway any one know about Worth Walden. the hat's innards look real HatCo. does Hatco make hat for them as privet label?

Both are very cool, Jeff, pun intended especially for the vent holes (I really like those) in the Worth Walden hat.
Based on the color and style of that hat, it could have been some sort of uniform hat for Staties, INS or Park Service? Just a guess.

The Akubra is also very nice. Both look great on ya! I could see those going well with your kilt!

That's a great looking hat Jeff, great bash and you gotta love the vents!

My eBay impulse purchase got here a couple of days ago guys, and I am still a bit in wonder as to it's make up. Looks to be a quality hat, and feels very much like fur felt to me, but could it be wool? I am unsure of how to be certain.

It's by Roger Brent, and is a brown (way too many brown hats, more than half my collection now!) Pork Pie and has a medium brim at 2 3/16 inches. Looks good both up and snapped down. Only my second Pork Pie (don't think I need too many, it's not my style choice most of the time, but they fill a niche), and it's my first back bow.

If anyone can shed a bit of light on this one, please do. It's in great shape, and BIN with shipping was only $20.94, so it was a tiny investment (which is what led me to pull the trigger). Great hat for the money!

Your Akubra looks to be a model David Morgan carried back in the 90's. From the white liner to the grommet hole for the wind cord hook he has Akubra put in them I would say that it was bought from him. I have a paper catalog from 1990 in which this model is shown as well as most of the Akubra "bush style" hats sold in OZ do not have liners. And the Akubra logo is the newer one they changed to in the '90s as well. Nice hat :)

Wasn't the Brent the house hat at Montgomery Wards? Somehow I am remembering it that way. I may be wrong.

Well, this is a most unlikely purchase for me. Just when you think you know your ideal specs... It's a stingy brim; go, figure... Something about this really drew my attention:
