Peters Brothers

Picked up my Peters Bros milan at the local FedEx store over lunch.

First let me say that I'm sorry so many of you are still waiting on your PB hemp hat. I have no idea why mine was completed ahead of others.

The hat: my first impression honestly was mixed. First, I really didn't like their version of a cattleman crease so much and second guessed my decision to not go with more of a Stratoliner-type crease like a lot of others did.

However, after hitting the hat with a good amount of steam, I discovered how easy it is to work with this hemp straw, and tweaked the crease to my liking. The hat also fits much better after steaming it and then wearing it a bit.

In comparison, the hemp on my Stetson Stratoliner does not respond nearly as well to steam. The PB hemp is much stiffer than the Stetson hemp, which is not a bad thing. The sweatband is made of quality supple leather.

My only regret may be the crease, but I think that is an easy fix with some steam. I will wear it as-is for a while, but may yet change the crease.

Overall, I am very pleased and I think you guys will be as well.
Changing the crease is no problem with this hemp.

I'd have thought that Peters Bros. were the ultimate authority on the cattleman's crease. Didn't LBJ get his OR's there? Also, does the photo above show the crease before or after you tweaked it? It looks fine to me. Their hemp beats the hell out of Stetson's (imho).

Probably more of a matter of personal taste. I just tweaked it a bit and its much better now. I really like the hat.

Picked up my Milan at the store, this afternoon.

Indy style (but without the sharp Raiders crease), black Milan with dark red wine ribbon.

Fits perfectly and I'm very pleased. The guys said they are really busy and are working through the Milan backlog.

Here's the hat in the direct Texas afternoon sun:

RJR--great looking hat! I'm headed to Fort Worth on Mother's Day and try to pop over. What is that--a 5 1/2 inch crown?

DJH--the ribbon is amazing. Black in the summer will be interesting! nice shape!

Thanks for the comments, guys.

DougC - I know what you mean about the black in the summer. I already have a black Milan Dualist that Art made for me and it works well in the evenings, regardless of the temperature.

Bob - the Indy style from the 4th movie is one of the my all time favorites (I have an Adventurebilt and a Penman in this style) and I was looking for something similar in straw. The PB guys make a lot of Indy hats and have the blocking perfected.

Cheers!
David!

Wow great looking there! With that ribbon, you could wear that hat with any attire! Casual...out on the town....driving the Jag....Academy Awards...

Before a bit of tweaking:

After:

As delivered, the center dent was quite tight - barely a finger's width, which made the profile of the hat a bit higher. I widened the center dent, and shortened the side dents for a better look from the front as Micheal has come on his cattleman creased hats. Although very subtle, the changes make all the difference to me. I only wish I would have thought to have taken a front "before" shot before I tweaked the crease. Again, I highly recommend these hats.

Wow. That is a very nice looking straw, man. I am not really a fan of straws, but I may give one of these a go.
What are your thoughts in fit and finish?
