Whenever I see a Stagecoach trimmed out like that, I can't help but think of this:

Yes!!! That’s the look I’m going for. It’s like you can read my mind. :)

I like it. Those beaded bands look like a lot of work. Pretty cool though.
Thanks. I tried all kinds of combinations & went back to the solid points because I liked the broken row of antique white / forest green below the points. It reminds me of stitching. I changed the bottom 2 rows to chocolate & added 1 yellow bead above each cross in the top row of Sioux Sky Blue.

So colors from top to bottom will be Sioux Sky Blue, antique white, yellow, light orange, red, forest green, antique white/forest green, and Chocolate brown.

I had to think about this one. Here is my opinion. That is a beautiful hat, and has very nice felt to work with. The ribbon and binding are a bit flashy and very late seventies. However, it is representative of it's time, and would be cool on certain occasions. If I had it, I would leave it original, at least it isn't macrame!

Well, I just wasn’t feeling the binding and ribbon. I made an offer with the thinking that I could change it up. The offer was rejected and I felt a bit of relief, probably a good indication that it wasn’t the hat for me.

I do like the felt and shape though.

Don't blame you, I have a hard time with it. If it were solid color, it would look good.

Your very welcome! I also do a little bead work myself. I’ll try and post when I get a minute.

Welcome Michael! Can't wait to see the bead work. I have my Grandfather's looms from when he taught arts/crafts as part of the CCC (or some such) back in the 1930s in Chicago. I've thought about doing it myself, but not sure something that requires eyesight would be a good hobby to start at this point.

Lucky kid!

I really am a fedora guy and only dabble in westerns. Yet another Resistol 3X in my size showed up for the cost of lunch I couldn’t resist. It was the color that swayed me as the hat is otherwise just another western.

I totally understand the appeal. Are you going to keep it Western?

I’m not certain. I’ll try it as is, but I think at a minimum I’ll experiment with the shape and crease. I’m tempted to convert it, but I’ll wait to see it in person. Luckily the seller is only 100 miles from me so I hope it gets here soon.

Looks like a “Quicksilver” Model they made in the late 80’s through about 1998/2000. The were also made in a Tycoon (pinch crown) and also in black. A very popular hat in its day.

So why the efford to get one to make it look like a "plain/simple" silverbelly hat? There are better silverbelly hats out there.
Is this like something I have seen here with a long hair hat that someone thought it would be a good idea to pounce it to make a... "plain" hat.

I agree that pouncing a long hair is a travesty.

That Resistol looks more tan than Silverbelly and it’s hard to find hats in the larger sizes. It’s the case of beggars not being choosers.

I did some research and came across old photos of your hat with this same binding/ribbon. It looked like you had flattened the brim. We take what is available and we alter it more to our liking. I think yours looks great and it almost convinced me to buy the hat.

The not so fun thing about that "long hair" is that I think it lost a lot of felt and ended unusable, it never appeard as a finished hat.
gtdean48 hat was transformed to a... generic hat. It lost it's "Stagecoach" mark.
I think I flattened the brim on the one Cindy and Daniel gave me. The other 2 remain as they reached me.
