DD, give me some guidance here on your pot method of curling. I have the hat sitting upright on a microwave carousal plate with my stockpot over top. Everything is sitting on a styrofoam cooler just to bring it up to where I can work from a chair. Since the pot is smaller than the brim I will have to move the pot around the brim edge maintaining the radius I want. If I want more curl on the sides I start with more margin from the edge? I will be using hot water from a small boiler on the brim margins only. When I did my Woomera with a smaller curl I curled around a piece of rope. Any recommendations or instructions are welcomed.

I can't be much help with the pot. I just do my curls by hand. Make the edge of the brim wet and start working in the curl I want. Takes time but it has worked well. I hope DD chimes in on this.

I’m sure he will weigh in when he has time. I’ve only done a couple, both freehand & with a clothesline 5/16” rope before. I thought his pot method might bring more uniformity to it.

Jack, when I do it I set the pot upright, and put the crown inside the pot. I only do four to six inches at a time. I just overlap the pot edge by the amount of curl desired. Then move to another section opposite the previous section. When all gaps have been curled, I smooth and blend it together by hand.
Cornshucker does some really nice rolls by hand, maybe he can shed some light also.

Thanks DD. I remember that now. I just thought it might be easier to keep a radius by doing it the other way. If you don't have a tool to curl it with, take a steam iron and iron the curl in by folding the edge as you go along. Easy to do.

Are you just steaming the curl or are you touching the iron to the hat? And if touching, are you backing up the curl with anything (between the hat and the iron). I think I'm going to need pictures or a video...
