Thanks Everyone, I really appreciate the positive response. I guess it is time to make another hat.

I am slowly improving, and I continue to get help from a couple of members here at The Fedora Lounge. I like working with people that ask me to make a hat for them, I always learn something in the process and it can be a challenge, and a learning experience.
This steel gray hat is for sale, I will post it on Ebay for sale.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3055199590...NW6YN2&hash=item4722689c35:g:hcsAAOSwLShmIe-d
I have a number of people that have added the listing to their watch list, I should have another Indy hat to list next week.

Does anyone want to buy a hat? If anyone is interested we can talk sale price.

My wife tried this hat on and it fit her perfectly, the problem is, she doesn't wear hats., however she loves the hat, she told me that this hat is beautiful, she even told me what to sell it for. That Surprised me.
I posted the hat on Ebay right after posting here on TFL.

Have a Great Weekend,
Darrell

Hello Fedora Fans.

I finished another Indiana Jones Fedora and posted it on Ebay and Etsy, so far everything has sold on Ebay so I have to ask myself. Should I even use my shop on Etsy, BustedHats? So far I have made all of the Indy Raiders Fedora hats look a like, there are a few small changes in the hats I am sure, but not much of a change.
Etsy and Ebay has different charges for sure and if I do sell a hat on Etsy I will know the difference in the cost of using one over the other. I have posted some hats on Pinterest, and Etsy will place ads on Pinterest.
I have a rabbit felt in military green color and I am thinking about making it into a Fedora, Campaign hat or maybe a Western style. Does anyone have a suggestion on type and size?

I will post a couple of photos of the Raiders hat that I posted today.

Thank you for your time and interest,
Darrell

Hello all.

I am new to the group and just getting into Fedoras. I just retired today (30Apr24) from the military after 24 years of service. I need a hobby; so I think I want to get into making hats. I want to make my own hat block and other items. Does anyone have some templates that I can use? I want to make all my supplies from wood, either plywood or live edge. Even go into other materials.

Please advise.

Best,
Mel

You have posted in the incorrect thread. This is a thread for hats made by Busted Hats. There is a separate thread for Hat Making/Millinery. Most block suppliers are professional and I doubt they would be willing to part with proprietary info. Most hatters here either buy their equipment from professional makers or figure it out on their own.

You could always buy a single block and a flange from a professional and then you have your template. There are a number of 3D printed hat making tools offered on Etsy for a prices much lower than wood. Perhaps just buy them....might be cheaper than making your own from wood......not to mention the time.

I made my first hat blocks using 2 x 8, I cut the layers in an oval shape making a guess about what the block should look like after I finished it. I ran into a problem, the wood wasn't smooth enough so I had to apply a couple coats of autobody filler and then sand. Looking back on that Idea and how much and time that I had to invest in 1 hat block, I would have saved money if I had purchased a block that was already made. You have to buy the right wood and have the right tools to make a proper hat block. I made two hat blocks and now I use them to sit finished hats on, that is all that my old blocks are good for, I now have a small collection of hat blocks, all of my hat blocks were made by Clint Crump.

I made a flange a few years back. The finished product came out great and I use it regularly BUT it took me so damn long to complete I decided I was far better off buying blocks/flanges from a craftsman and I stick to doing what I know how to do....make hats.

Nothing this color in my stable...

OK, soon there will be!

Reading your posts and seeing the work you are doing -- well you had me at hello!

Looks like I'll be waiting (not so patiently) on delivery next week :)

Hi Captain Rob,

I drove to Walton Ky this moring and dropped your hat off at 8:30 when the post office opened, I have already started tracking the package and you should have your new hat on the 8th. according to the tracking information that was posted, I selected notice by text message so I can monitor the progress of the package. That is something that I do with all hats or items that I send out by any carrier.

Thank you, I really appreciate your business and I hope that I can make you another hat.
I hope that you enjoy wearing your new hat.

Have a Great Weekend and a Even Better Week,
Darrell

Hello Everyone,

I have been away for a little while, I have been a little busy.
I recently finished an Indian Jones Raiders style fedora in size 7 1/4" for a FedoraLounge member, I shipped the hat out yesterday and then in the afternoon I put two rabbit fur felt hat bodies on blocks, one is a Nude color and will be a size 7 1/8" and another in a Bone color. The Nude color will be a gambler style, 4" high telescope crown with a 3" wide brim and a pencil curl, the pencil curl will have to be done by hand, I do not have a tool to make the curl, but it is for my wife. The Bone color fedora will be a size 7 3/8", is anyone looking for a Bone color rabbit fedora? If interested send me a message, if needed I can reblock the felt to a smaller size. I also have two different styles of Indiana Jones Raiders listed on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/usr/dwb4926 if either of these hats interest any member, send me a message here at the Lounge. If anyone here is interested in having a hat made I will work with you to make the hat style that you are looking for, I will go over ever detail with you on the hat that you want, pictures are very helpful.

Hi Rob,

My wife said that you look good in that hat, I am glad that you are happy with the hat. My wife said that the Fedora is definitely your hat style, the dimenstional cut is a great cut to have in the brim shape.
Let me know if I can make another hat for you.

Thank you for your patience and help with the hat that you wanted me to make.
Darrell
