From the days when folks wore military outerwear...not as a fashion statement...but because it was warm, comfortable and inexpensive. It’s 1963 in Mississippi. Civil Rights activist, E. W. Steptoe, in a well-worn B-15. Hard to tell if it a “D” or a green “C”.

Even as a civilian, he still looks cool in that outfit. You could wear that today and not look out of place!

There's a certain irony that these same pieces of cheap, reliable military outerwear that folks wore to be almost anti fashion have now become the preserve of wealthy Japanese collectors who hoard them and demand thousands of dollars if you wish to take one off their hands. It's bizarre!

Is that an ANJ-4 Delon's wearing?
I think it might be an M445 from the sheepskin windflap but could be wrong.

The actor next to him, Lino Ventura, is in my favorite war film, ‘Army of Shadows’. It’s about the French resistance, worth watching if you get a chance.

A very young Willem Dafoe in a G-1. This was when Dafoe was in high school. He and I are the same age...so I’m guessing the photo was taken sometime between 1970 and 1974. The jacket appears to have big paper-clip zipper, and may even have a dynal collar. If so, it’s a late D series or maybe even an early E series G-1. And it certainly looks to be much-loved and well-worn.

John C. Robinson, graduate of Chicago's Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical University, a founder of the aviation program at his alma mater, the Tuskegee Institute, and commander of Ethiopia's Air Force, here pictured in uniform. In 1935 Robinson, a U.S. citizen, had offered his services to Haile Selassie to help defend an abandoned Ethiopia from the invading army of an imperialistic Italy led by the Fascist Mussolini.

Here's a guy named James Neely who builds replica small-scale but flyable aircraft. The link is a bank advert but it's interesting. He's wearing a Rothco CWU nylon jacket in the ad.

Elon Musk wearing what may be an original E. Church M-422a. But the cuff knits appear to be missing and zipper pull looks odd. It’s definitely pre-sixties Navy Leather, but hard to know exactly what from this photo.

Yes, saw this one earlier on, his Falcon Heavy was indeed impressive, good taste.
