From looking at old pics Don wore different bands over the years from yellow to gold. They all had yellow corn beads. He also wore 3 different colors of hat Silerbelly, Sand, and Pecan although they all had the same shape.

From just what I remember black braid with gold acorns, & gold braid with gold acorns designated different Officers; yellow & tan with acorns were medical corpsman; orange with orange tassels were designated for company engineers; there are others but that's all I recall from memory.

Perhaps Williams or someone he is honoring in his ancestry served as medical corpsman.

Serval law enforcement agencies use the same bands and acorns. The colors are often chosen just to match the hat; although, here in California there is an agency where the officers wear the same gold band/acorns as you have while the supervisors (regardless of rank) wear a different color.

Yours looks good and with age will look even better. Nice job on the hat.

Need to get some oil from my hands in it. That does the trick on Silverbellys. It will look better with age.

I noticed the Acorn hatband Don wears is somewhere in between Gold and Dirty Yellow.:):) The Acorn band I bought from Miller Hats is Yellow. I might have to drag it through the mud first.:):)

Hi there... make a pot of coffee... lay your gold cord in a pan and pour the coffee on it and let it set for a while... a day... over night... it comes out just right... ;)
