Rob

Looks like the bakery truck could be a repurposed ambulance.

ORIGINAL CAPTION FROM newspaper clipping: "Rebound Crash Fells Gas Pumps -- Mrs. Francis Shea, of Mount Prospect, had just left her auto to sign a gas slip at Nick's Gas Station at Busse and Northwest Hwy. in Mount Prospect when this happened. Auto driven by Marlin Wells, 16, of Mount Prospect missed a curve, hit the first car and smashed it against two gas pumps, starting a fire. Blaze was quickly extinguished. Miss Wells suffered facial cuts and left kneecap injury. Her passenger, Susan Draper, 17, of Des Plaines, had facial cuts." Photo for Sun-Times by Robert Blaski, May 23, 1962.

Regarding the streetcar accident: did a little snooping and found the following on a Facebook page for the "Danforth East Community Association " (of Toronto) in a post from January 9, 2013 (same photo):

"Danforth & Glebemount, June 27, 1935 - Accident between a Streetcar and Tanker Truck. The Daily Star reported on the following day: "Passengers leaped through jagged street car windows--three men riding in the front of a flame-enveloped gasoline truck escaped injury as if by miracle--a dentist's office, liquor store and apartment suite were set ablaze, and several man-hole covers were hurled into the air as the result of a terrific crash between a street car and a 1,000-gallon oil truck at Glebemount and Danforth Aves. yesterday. Gasoline flames shot across the roadway, igniting curtains, awnings and window fronts of the apartment at Glebemount and Danforth Aves., the windows being shattered. Police report that gasoline seeping into sewers caused the explosion of four man-hole covers a quarter of a mile apart. Leonard Bigelow, driver of the truck was questioned by Main St. station detectives as to how the accident occurred.”

Wouldn't happen in Ireland. The fuel is very low flammable, and it tastes rather good too.
