after some 2 yrs of on/off play, I only have 23 fb "friends".

So I guess I really don't have friends [huh]
I think that FB has been marketing new members differently in the last year or so. I've received over a hundred FB generated e-mails (using contacts lists) from people announcing their membership.

An example:

Hi Tomasso,

I set up a Facebook profile where I can post my pictures, videos and events and I want to add you as a friend so you can see it. First, you need to join Facebook! Once you join, you can also create your own profile.

Thanks,
Freind/acquaintence/bussiness

I imagine if I were to join FB today (ain't gonna happen) and send out this missive to all my e-mail contacts I would probably have hundreds of friends in short order. But to what end.......

It's better to have one person you can call a friend rather than a hundred acquaintances :)

Very true. This year I whittled-down my friends-list to about 70 people, because I really didn't need to see the duck-faced bar-photos or read the melodramatic statuses of 'acquaintances'. I'm still tickled by the fact that our current lives have an 'edit friends' feature.

By the way, rue, I dig the Gracie Allen quote - should you happen to read this.

Awwww..... thank you :) I'm a huge fan of George Burns and his lovely wife Gracie. He's the only star that I ever wanted an autograph from, but he died before I could get one. I was able to see him live in Santa Barbara shortly before he died though. I know this is off topic, but.... Have you read his book 'Gracie: A Love Story'? It's wonderful :)

January's probably the only month where I'm going to have time to settle down with some books again. Having just finished 'Stalingrad' (a 300 page depiction of Hitler's abandonment of his 6th Army on the Eastern front and the ensuing slow deaths by starvation, cold, and untreated injury) I think I could go for something a little bit...brighter. I'm sure I'll enjoy it : )

He lived to 100. I think he did his part in waiting for you :D

haven't read anything on this thread...but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents--(probably unwise not having read...)

I quit facebook at the end of April...and I thought I would regret it and hated the helpless feeling it gave me at first...but I am

JUST
SO
FREE.

The main thing I dislike about FB is they do not give you the ability to have 2 separate accounts. I have one for family but it is tied to my business Fan page so many times people want to join my fan one but contact me thru the family one so I have to privately message them with the link to my business one. What a pain.

Miss Peach: Congratulations.
