Very OZ style crease in your Squatter ! You say it is Vintage, any pics of the inside? Any idea as to how old it might be? I love the Aussie style Cattlemans crease in it !

Apologies for describing it as 'Vintage'-I'm really not sure how old this hat is except that it is not a recent Akubra and it 'feels' like an old hat,any help dating this hat would be appreciated!
Some quick pics of the inside(I don't know who Bill Schofield is-maybe a Cattleman!)

It has the same Akubra logo and size tag as was in my Bushman that I bought back in 1972 so I'm sure it's close to that time period. The sweat looks to not have had much wear as the gold embosing of the logo is still crisp. Nice find. Did you get here in the States?

Went to Melbourne over the weekend and picked up this little beauty!

I Changed the ribbon and the bash, I really liked the standard bash of the bogart, just not on my head!
The old crease was very stubborn coming out, overall, took a few hours to get the old bash out and the new bash in.

very nicely done, Dan. I'd like the same bash in one of my Stylemasters.

You said it was difficult removing the factory crease - how did you go about it? I've attempted on a number of occasions, but that damned factory bash just pops right back in there. Not that I mind it, but I want to do something different with this particular hat.

Thanks VitaminG!

Fairly rough handling was required, and plenty of steam.
sortof bending and folding the felt in the opposite direction that it was to begin with, if that makes sense? and putting a smooth surface on the inside and rubbing against it with my thumb from the outside.
I heard that the bogart and stylemaster are basically the same hat just different bashes?

Cheers,
Danny

Received a Bushman I ordered last week. This is not dark tan as described on the David Morgan web site . It is the same color as my mid-brown squatter. So I just added to my collection of Brown akubra's (Cattleman, Squatter, Adventuer, Wentworth). Was hoping for something slight darker than my dark fawn Banjo Paterson.

That's interesting ! I have two Bushman's albiet 30+ years apart but they are the SAME color, a definate Tan/Brown with an Olive tone to them. How old is your Squatter as I've not seen one listed by any of the OZ retailers, nor Akubra nor ANY of the US retailers in Mid-Brown. Here's Akubra's Mid -Brown in a Stylemaster :

and here's the DM Bushman in the Nulabor tan:

Which is closer to your Bushman color? Would you have any pic as I'm a big fan of the Bushman and would like to see one in a Mid-Brown :)

My Squatter is from Everything Australian. I am mistaken on the color of the Squatter it is a Deep Fawn (brown). To me the color is the same on both the Deep Fawn Squatter and the Nullabor Tan Bushman. Monbla256, I'll have to play with the security settings on my computer a while to try to get your pictures to display.

Calling this The Akubra Wanderer....

Being more of a mid-ribbon fan, I took a Moonstone Federation IV & had it modified by a couple of hatters.
First the ribbon was changed to a mid-ribbon, Stetson Playboy style treatment by Drew at Clean a Hat. www.cleanahat.com
Then Parker at Falcon Park Hattery, www.falconparkhattery, trimmed the brim to a universal 2 5/8 & bound the edge with matching ribbon.
This is like the Stetson Wanderer advertisement in my avatar...

That's interesting. But sounds like besides the dimensioning of the OZ Squatter and the US market version as is imported by DM being different, they are producing a model in a different version of Fawn for the OZ market. Here's a shot of the Mid-Fawn as sold by DM here in the US. :

When you can, post some pics of your two Akubra's :)

Tom I love the hat. Just a question. Why did you have two shops work on it?

Okay, My permissions does not include attachments. However once I got them outside side by side, I can see the color differences. Inside, only Loden Wentworth looks different.

"...Loden Wentworth ... " ? I thought you were comparing your Squatter vs Bushman? Have you been able to see my pics yet? Since you got your Squatter from OZ, did you get your Bushman from DM?

The end result is quite exceptional - thought provoking as well. You certainly won't come across many people wearing the same hat.
I'd say that sacrificing the Fed was an inspired move.
