Wow, very fine work! I look forward to seeing more. Navy trimmed with cream sounds really sharp, too!

Thanks! The ribbon is vintage 50s dead stock - I'm really excited to try it out. Might be a navy/cream dual ribbon combo. I usually wait til the hat is pulled to really pin down the trim.

Impressive first work. A real looker!
How did you arrive at your name?

Thank you! It's a play on one of my favorite Shakespeare quotes, from Much Ado About Nothing:

BENEDICK
…It is certain I am loved of all ladies, only you excepted; and I would I could find in my heart that I had not a hard heart, for truly I love none. (1.1.124)

I Noir'd it up a bit, and the name was born ;-)

Started work on a 7 1/4 Men's Dark Navy fur felt Fedora this evening. Got it steamed, blocked & tied and did a little work with the iron. Tomorrow, I'll iron it forever. I'm still leaning towards the 50's deadstock cream grosgrain trim, but might incorporate some 60's navy grosgrain into the bow. I'm also not certain which bash style I'll be doing. Suggestions, gents?

Yeah, the blokes and ladies on here are a great bunch. You will find nothing but support with work like this.

You know, if we had more hatters in the world... maybe my era parties would consist of more than two fedora wearers and thirty people wearing plastic party city "70s gangster hats"

The new hat is looking good!

Those are interesting blocks that you use. They look like they have Panama straw on the outside of them. Are they wooden underneath with straw on the outside?

Wow. You need to institute a no plastic hat rule!

Well spotted! I believe it is Panama Straw. It's certainly some kind of straw, but they are very old and it's hardened onto the block. There's no real give to it. Yes, underneath they're wood. I bought them second hand from a man who bought a big lot from factory that was closing. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get any kite info on them. I'd love to know where they came from.

I always cover them, and my other straight wooden blocks with dry cleaning bags - I want to keep them is good shape!
