What's For Breakfast...

Pork shoulder - a.k.a. Boston butt - is one of the choicest cuts of the hog, a far cry from lips and *ssholes as you would suggest. It is what most pork barbecue, other than ribs, is. If you've never eaten southern style properly slow hickory smoked, hand pulled pork shoulder then you are missing out. There is NO better way to enjoy the hog. I'd pick it over bacon even.

And you seriously think they use the choicest parts to make Spam?! Uh, no.
BBQ is one thing but leave Bacon out of it. :p Next thing you are going to tell me that Spam is better than bacon. lol lol

Definately not better, but if sliced thin and fried crispy, with eggs, it'll do.

So you should be able to find it easily.
Y'know, this conversation got me curious about haggis, so I did a little research. Proper haggis has been banned in the U.S. since 1971 because the U.S. Department of Agriculture decided sheep lung isn't suitable for human consumption. I mean, really? With all of the rubbish food available here that's where they draw the line? lol On that note...

Are you SURE it is just pig? lol lol
Of course it isn't. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and the U.S. Department of Agriculture have defined acceptable levels of food contamination, i.e. "Natural or unavoidable defects in foods that present no health hazards for humans". So as not to put anyone off of their meals, let's just call it "foreign matter". :D

Ok, I found out that the lo fat Spam has chicken in it. :puke: Hormel says "It contains a mixture of ham and chopped pork shoulder. (Ham is the pig's thigh; pork is everything else.)" Hmmmmm.... snoot, eyes, ears, hooves.....:p

And now apparently it contains beaks. :eeek:
The so called Southern shows aren't real Southern cooking.
They've been sensationalized for the purpose of ratings.

As for spam, it's only good if you get it fresh.
To do so, you need to shoot a Spamalope during Spamalope season. :D

I've also done one over Pecan wood.
Smokey but not overpowering.

Haggis isn't just lungs, it's "pluck" -- which is the sheep's lungs, kidneys, liver, and heart all chopped together into a nice pudding. Except for the onions, which I can't eat, it's a savory treat.

When I was a toddler, heart was the only meat I'd eat. I was the bloodthirstiest kid on the block.

Heart, lungs, liver, brains, pancreas...You're good, but draw the line at onions?

I didn't see mention of kidneys in the ingredients but I could live with that too. :p Onions are what makes it taste good. It is missing something without it but if it makes you sick then better you have something you can keep down. :p

As it happens I had a good conversation with a native Scot today about haggis -- he was bemoaning the fact that you can't get proper haggis in the United States anymore, since sheep lungs can't legally be sold here because of concerns over its disease-carrying capabilities. And just when all this haggis talk was making me hungry.
