A balmy, sunny 52 F today in Dallas but a major arctic frontal system on its way through tonight that corresponds to really COLD weather for most of the US over the next few days. My Teamster is getting nicely broken in this season.

Unfortunately, we have only had a few cold days this winter in my part of the UK the rest wet and mild which is pretty disappointing.

This is the second winter on the run where the cold weather has not materialised even though the forecasters were promising the coldest winter in 50 years, what a crock of sh*t.

I have quite comfortably been wearing both my A2 and G1 so far without any problems, not even touched my N1 let alone my Irvin :(

He's not in T.O. - we just got a light dusting of snow here and yes, that windchill was wicked. I finally had my USAF N3-B on for the first time in the back yard feeding the birds, squirrels and refilling the heated bird bath - and man, is that thing TOASTY! Blanket-lined joy when the windchill is pushing -30C ...
The ride in to work was chilly too - on the mountain bike. Have steel-studded tires so it's not as crazy as it sounds. There's not a cloud and it's sunny and that's really nice- but the temps are going DOWN as the day goes on …

One of my field guys, Corey, called in this morning with a report from the front. He's "up norf" in Malone, NY. It was -9 Fahrenheit this mornin' with a windchill of minus 15 to 20. He's wearing a Filson Double Mack (Seattle Cut) I sold him on Monday. Called to to tell me it saved his bacon this AM.

Best way to keep warm is to work harder. Windchill was well below minus 35 this morning and I was sweating so much I had to start shedding layers of clothing, down to a woollen overshirt. Then again my fingers still felt like they would drop off.

Air temperature here tonight, 14 degrees. Wind speed here tonight, 30 mph. Wind chill here tonight, -5 degrees.

All of this wouldn't be so bad were it not for the fact that 48 hours ago we were running our air conditioners because it was so uncomfortably warm and muggy.

I was last week in Montreal, -15 C, windy. A bit on the cold side. Then in NYC -2 C windy. Just as bad. Back in Geneva and the Alps, +10 C for the weekend :) No snow, just weird weather.

Well, I'm originally from way further north, -25 C is OK with me, after that it gets a bit annoying. Glad to be back and having clothes for whatever there is out there. Travelling makes things a bit trickier. Long overcoat rules there.

This morning it was -22C but no wind, although in open areas with a breeze it would feel much, much colder. The sun is out and will warm it up during the day though. I haven't seen the temp that low on the mercury for several years.

I know, it's pretty wicked out there today, eh?! My N3-B sailed through it on thew walk in to work though - I was toasty in it with my ELC C-3 under it, ELC B-2 cap under the hood and Buzz A-10 gloves in those pile-lined pockets. Just perfect. Blanket-lined joy! Man, I love this jacket!

We've seen the first inklings of spring here. A mild day here and there, temperatures nudging up a little and I'm starting to see green shoots and snowdrops . Hopefully, the worst of the weather is approaching its end. I even went out with just a t-shirt under my Irvin this afternoon!

I hope you don't think that "worst" = "coldest". I find it very annoying when weather forecasters say "the temperature will rise to X degrees at best", as if higher temperatures are better temperatures.
Since mid-January we have had cold spells but, with lower temperatures, come bright and dry weather, which is very enjoyable; last winter (2013-14) which was mild, windy and VERY wet was far "worse" than this one!

I mean in terms of just wet, cold, dark and miserable. Give me a cold, bright, sharp winter any day of the week. By all accounts, February has been easier than last month, which just seemed to be perpetual rain and gales. That said, I will welcome the extra daylight we're due at the end of the month. *looks out of window* So very dark...

I emphatically agree! I was in your city from Tuesday 3rd to Saturday 7th; it was cold, dry and quite bright.

Th daylength is indeed increasing dramatically, which greatly lifts the spirits. But we don't put the clocks forward until late March - why so late, I can't understand.

This drives me crazy. You are in Glasgow which is the same latitude as Hudson's Bay, Labrador and Moscow. I am in southern Canada at the same latitude as Monaco. So how come you have green shoots and snow drops while we have -20C and hope the snow will be gone by the end of April?

Don't give me a lot of apcray about the Gulf Stream. It flows past the Maritime Provinces before it goes anywhere near Europe and a fat lot of good it does them. They are freezing worst than I am.
