I just noticed today that Worth and Worth are offering a straw called the Eastwood that looks very nice and is reasonably priced. It comes in black and in oxblood, which is pretty unique for a straw hat. I think as soon as some money matters get cleared up I may be pursuing one. Any opinions?

I'm glad your PHD fedora showed up. You are obviously better at ordering the correct size than I am. :eusa_clap

Nice looking hat. I see the fedora has a bow. The Havana (which I ordered), does not...unless it was missing. Who knows. My replacement should come in at the end of the week.

Great 9 bucks spent Dogman. Can't wait to see this one fixed up. I'm starting to like that ventilated look more and more.

I selected the black grosgrain band

That's what I chose too, but there was no bow. Just a loop where the bow would be. I thought it was just the style, but maybe the bow 'was' missing after all. We'll see when the replacement shows up. Your hat looks great on you. Good choice.

question... I noticed that when I put on my panama the brim shifts in shape due to my long head. It makes the sides rise. Is this fixable?

Pretty common issue, vmt,it may take a reflange job if its severe.Otherwise you may be able to use a bandblock/stretcher and then steam.

Hi everyone!

I was out treasure hunting today and came across this hat at a thrift store. I know next to nothing about Panamas so I usually just pass them by but this one seemed nicer than most I have seen.

I decided to take a chance and paid 2 dollars for it. Imagine my surprise when I looked up the brand online! [emoji41] It was a lot more squashed when I found it, I dampened it and played around with shaping it, but I'm not sure of the original shape. It has a 2.25 inch brim and about a 5.5 inch open crown, 4.5 as creased. It has a cloth sweatband.
My question is, can anyone that is more experienced with Panamas tell me a little more about the quality level by the closeup of the weave size? Or, are there other factors involved besides the weave?
Thanks in advance for all info.

Straw hats can be beautiful and enjoyed for qualities other than the fineness of the weave. That said, a fine montecristi might have 300 or more weave crossings per linear inch.
