Jacket guys/gals, what briefcase do you carry? Do you match or change bags?

I hate carrying bags.
I've got pockets for my keys, phone and wallet, how did my life get to the point where I have to carry a bag?
There's a really thin line between a bag for carrying work things, or a day trip (or something), and being a girl.
On the rare occasion I don't have to take a bag with me, I feel so liberated.
I guess this is how feminists felt in the 70's when they started burning thier bras! (@_@)

Same here. There's nothing I need to carry that would require a bag. Keys, phone, wallet, that's it.
+1 too. I haven't carried a bag since I was in grade school. Only keys, hipster wallet, and Apple iPhone on my belt.
Yeah. Often I need a briefcase or a shoulder bag to carry my laptop, documents and stuff for work, but I hate it. Shoulder bags ruin suit jackets, and ruin the way other clothes hang on me. The briefcase annoys me because I have to hold it, which makes doors, train tickets such a fuss with one hand. Yeah, I know 'first world problems' and all that, but the result is that I avoid a bag of any type whenever I can.

I think most of us are in this boat, no bag unless necessary for work, although I will carry a smaller ammo pouch sized when traveling to carry some gear with me, cross shoulder with some travel books, sunscreen, etc... I don't mind a heavy bag on my leather jackets, although I will move it from side to side to balance out any wear. Good suits and sport coats on the other hand, no straps on the shoulder as they can do serious damage. One of my least favorite things about summer is the lack of a spot to put things when I can no longer where a jacket.
Absolutely. My 'techie' friends keep telling me that the 'paperless office' means that soon my bag will be empty (and maybe they will be in the US), but only yesterday a Japanese friend of mine, full of breathless excitement, told me that I could now trade in Bitcoins over the fax machine :eusa_doh:

Here's the irony: As we approach the "paperless" office, the average business traveller has a laptop, a large screen phone, his iPad and/or Kindle, the three different chargers, bottled water, etc... all weighing approximately the same as the files we used to drag around.

You know, you've just reminded me that the average load of a modern soldier in full marching order is about 65kg (IIRC) which is what it used to be for a Greek hoplite with his shield and equipment.
I guess there's something to say about human nature in what we put in our bags.
maybe the idea is to left the laptop chained to the office desk, and carry SSD external drive/ USB sticks around 
I hate bag too, but since I still draw on paper, I roll the paper to fit in that small round case, for traveling I prefer waist bag/ pouch/ fanny pack... finding a flatter looking one is the key, otherwise it would look fat and sloppy.

I tend to do it out of habit as a security thing. Makes it much harder for a bag to be snatched.
While I'm not keen on carrying a bag, I really hate ruck sacks. If I look or feel girlie, which is unlikely, I don't give a toss.

Bags tend to be more popular with those of us who live in the inner city, don't drive, and get about on public transport. Some minimal stuff fits in pockets, but if I want a book, newspaper, bottle, tablet, camera... Quite a lot of stuff I often like to have to hand. Not many jackets can manage it all comfortably; even more of a problem in Summer (though to be fair once it gets hot enough that I can't cope wearing a jacket of any sort, I'd generally rather stay indoors).
It's one way for it to go. If you have access at all times to a workstation with a monitor / keyboard / mouse, then all you need to carry around is a small harddrive. You can get something with a terabyte of storage now that's about the size of a cigarette packet. Alternatively, the last USB key I picked up has a storage capacity of 128GB (mine for GBP5.00) - a similar size to that in my MS Surface (which has replaced a 'normal' laptop as my main work machine).
I should think that for most work purposes, though, it will be replaced by the cloud, with everything online and accessible from whichever device you choose to use, meaning that any terminal will do, so as long as they're available where you're headed, you won't need to carry a machine, or at least you won't need to carry anything big. Microsoft are already headed for a subscription-based approach to MS Office apps in future, rather than the traditional purchase-and-install approach. I'm not keen on this personally (I generally eschew subscription services where it is at all possible to buy outright), but it seems to be the general drift.
Unfortunately, this is seeing the return of the awful aspects of desktop computing. At work, they're railroading us into a new, institution-wide arrangement where we have a choice of one of two Dell laptops, and then we'll be issued with that along side a docking station (some health and safety nonsense, I think). Yay, docking stations: all the inconvenience of a desktop save that lack of portability. Needless to say, as soon as the install people have been and gone, my docking station will be shunted to a corner of the office and not used. Mind you, I'm unlikely to use the laptop either.... it's predecessors had sat unused for most of its life since I picked up a Surface Pro instead. :eusa_doh: I've come to prefer a setup of a large laptop to use at home, effectively the way I used to use a desktop, and a tablet/laptop hybrid for on the go. A standalone tablet can be very useful on the go, though a phones get bigger it's not the deal it once was for me.

Sorry, I don't think I was very clear. I don't think that I do look girlie, it's just that I see the way my wife faffs around with her handbag, and I feel really self-conscious that I look and do the same with mine.
Big J you need to send us pics of you carrying your handbag and let us be the judge of how much you might be into your feminine (girlie) side.
