Woke up to snow on the ground. Most of it is melted off already, the rest should be gone in the next couple of days, with temps in the 40s-50s! Should add, it's the best kind of snow, real wet, so lots of moisture for the lawn and plants.

We didn't get any of the snow. I guess it's still fall here. There are a few leaves holding on tenuously. The beautiful color is gone. It doesn't stay long.

Tell me, when do retailers start promoting Christmas in your part of the world? A friend of mine, whose the stock manager in a department store, told me that they have either sold, or have taken orders for well over five hundred boxed Christmas crackers. The mind boggles.

It depends on the store. For example, Hobby Lobby (they sell craft items, sewing, floral, etc., etc.) already has their Christmas merchandise for sale. Most other stores start putting out Christmas stuff in October.

I am pining for autumn. It's been so very hot here and couple that with the humidity and it's like a sauna outside. Every summer gets worse and worse for me in terms of dealing with the heat and the depression that comes along with it. (I'm pretty sure I have the summer version of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)). We finally got a break from it today - low 80s now.

Same here with Hobby Lobby. And the Christmas “spirit” kicks off after Thanksgiving.

I agree with you about the hot summer weather.
But I would prefer the heat over the cold which has a tendency to depress me.

After August, the weather goes down to the low 80s for the most part,
even towards December.

When a very cold spell hits in the Fall, it alters things or activities.
The good part is that the bitter cold doesn’t last for long periods.
If it did....that would really depress me.

I would go bonkers if I was to be snow-bound for months.

I hate humidity. I can deal with the heat fairly well. I like autumn (the weather, the foliage, Halloween, etc), but know what follows. Winter. I am OK with the cold, but, boy, I sure do hate snow.

In this part of southern California Halloween is the second-biggest money making holiday for retail stores (Christmas being the biggest), so they'll usually wait until the beginning of November. But there really are no "hard and fast" rules when it comes to worshiping the almighty buck (or "almighty quid" in your corner of the world), so some retailers will begin to promote the two holidays simultaneously some time in September.
