I'm bookmarking this thread. I need something in this hide. I can't imagine any jacket not looking perfect in it. Should've done Bootlegger 2.0 in it. Man if ifs and buts were candy and nuts....would love to see how the hide evolves Benny, absolutely stellar jacket, perfect fit, and the color is mesmerizing.

When Carrie first posted a jacket in that colour ages ago, I knew I was going to get a Sunburst in that hide. A few weeks after ordering it, though, a couple of weeks out from when it arrived, I started worrying about it. Would it be too red? (I don't mean russet or cordovan, I mean really red!) Would I look silly (well, more silly than I already look) if it IS really red? I mean, it's called Red Fox . . . But the money was down and hey, if I can get around town wearing vintage or vintage-inspired clothing every day, I figured surely I could make a flash Sunburst work.

When it arrived, I couldn't believe what a beautiful rich honey colour the hide was. Any idea of actual red was forgotten. I think it'd look great in just about any style of jacket, Bootlegger included.

Absolutely agree, great color. I have a battered tan teamster, dark seal highwayman.
This will be a perfect color and hide to go with the other two

Dare I say Bootlegger 3.0?

You would definitely be the man to do it Tony. You are the cross zip King! My R-jays Brando-style jacket is over 20 years old now. I would never part with it, but inspired by you, HD and Carlos, I'm starting to daydream about a two-tone D-pocket Bootlegger. In practical terms I don't have the moolah and I want to spend next winter constantly wearing the Sunburst, but a guy can still dream, huh?

I'm sharing some photos I posted on the Thurston Bros/Insurrection thread here of my long-awaited acquisition, an Aero Sunburst in Red Fox medium-weight steerhide. I'm going to thoroughly enjoy molding it to my form; it's not stiff like horsehide, per se, but it will still need a good breaking in period to sit right.

Just got home form work, unfortunately it was dark outside so couldn't use natural light but the pics still pick up the rich tones of the honey-brown colour.
how has the red fox broken in? how stiff is it compared to vicenza(very soft) and cxl fhqq(very stiff) Love the color, but am a vicenza fan in terms of softness.

thx!!

It's not stiff at all, but thick and smooth. I wouldn't say it's very soft, but it's a lot softer than CXL HH. I've never handled Vincenza so I can't be of help there. So far it has barely started the break-in process, after four months of wear in the middle of winter it still looks almost brand new. Carrie from Thurston Bros could fill you in better, as she'd be hep to the different qualities of Vincenza compared to Red Fox. I can't speak highly enough of the colour or the quality of the Red Fox though. It's still a very substantial jacket but doesn't quite as much like wearing a suit of armour as my CXL HH Halfbelt.

Thanks!
My fit jacket was a really thick HWY Cordovan cxl fhqq. It had a gorgeous look, but was just too heavy and stiff for me. I got a dark seal vicenza that I absolutely love, so soft and pliable, but still substantial hide.

Now I want a mulligan to go with the HWY. I want that same look of cxl, but not so stiff. I also think the fox color and shine would give a sick style and feel to the mulligan.

Any chance for updated pics, see how it's wearing in ?

Nothing to show you unfortunately my friend. It's still not jacket weather here - we've had Endless Summer 3 down here - and the Sunburst still hangs in the closet sadly. We've just scarcely started to touch autumn weather and that's only in the mornings and evenings. Once I've had more chance to wear it over winter, which I'm sure will arrive sometime, I'll post some pics of it. Last winter's wear didn't even touch it, it still looks brand new. It will take a bit of wear to make it look like it's actually seen some mileage.
