Granite felt hat this morning as I was spreading ice melt around the walkways. Pic taken well before 7:00am with cloudy overcast skies. I wore charcoal sweater and a black vest to better showcase the true felt color.

Here is a comparision pic of a charcoal felt taken at 8:00am after scrapping off the melted ice. I need to clean the surfaces before the real snow comes.

Chameleon gray tones. Looks good in all types of light. Casual or formal, versatile.

We need to have this printed on something like tee shirts or bumper stickers, and make them available to the members here. :D

Ha! The funny thing being, I toyed with making this my signature (to appear at the bottom of posted messages) at the point I moved from browsing to creating an account here:

"I'm looking for a hat, not a hobby."

It sorta became past tense. o_O

"I was lookin' for a hat, not a hobby" works on different levels-- as a nod to the reality of falling into this rabbit hole, or as a retort when one only wants to, y'know, buy a hat.

I like the granite as it works for my country/city style of attire. My 2 granites are 3 years apart from different crafstmen and they are nearly the same hue.

I am flattered that you dug up some my pics of the granite Gannon hat. The last pic, me by the lake shore, is very acurate in indirect sun/shade. The pic above is accurate in direct winter sun. I hope it did not cause any false expectations. In the future will attempt to post the sunlight conditions for reference.

For me, your images have already proven really helpful. Thanks much for all the different shots/settings.

Colour is such a fascinating and vexing issue. I have a complete set of Winchester felt swatches and ordered my Granite from the swatch. The finished product, once the felt was pounced seemed to bring the brown tones more forward and the hat appears to be much browner toned than the unpounced sample.

Oh. Pounced vs. unpounced. That does introduce even more variable(s), doesn't it?!

Something like this? Of course approval to use art work would be needed etc.

Very helpful (and great looking hat-- in and of itself, and it suits you well).

As promised, the natural and granite together. Indoor and in natural light (bright sun).

The hat with the lighter/wider brim binding is the natural.

Also very helpful! Thanks. :)

^ I definitely see both the gray and the brown hues of the Granite felt in those photos. I like it, but I can see why some people wouldn't.

I'm in the 'dance with what brung ye' category, for my own-- I would prefer a bluer gray in general, but wanting a decent-er gray hat (which Stetson does not currently provide in the style I'd like/worth the money charged) is what brought me here, and am looking forward to a Granite Gannon when my number's up.

Snowblowing in a Gannon Wanderer (whiskey and charcoal trimmings).

What a great color combo! I wouldn't have thought of charcoal and whiskey together, but it's a fantastic look.

I'm bringing your image from t'other thread over as well, because I like seeing these pictures together:

Snowblowing in a Gannon Wanderer (whiskey and charcoal trimmings). The beaver felt sheds the weather and the sweat handels the effort with ease. Hat is brushed, leather wiped and sitting drying open crown on a block.

That is a great color combination Eric. I would have never thought to pair those colors but everytime I see that hat I stare and admire.

Gorgeous hat sir! The blue hued ribbon really makes the hat pop.

Steel felt is a fav of mine. I need to wear it more often.

Thanks Eric. Your photos are what made me give Gannon a try. I’ll admit that some of the hats I’ve commissioned were sent to Michael with screenshots of your hats to show what I had in mind. Thank you for posting those photos!
