I know what it is. I thought I was going to complete my list very slowly, because I was limited to finding hats in my size. Now that I have Ignacio, I am finding several that were on my list faster, because the size doesn't really matter that much. I still stay away from 6 7/8s and maybe 7 5/8s, but I will be done sooner. Maybe an exceptional hat after that occasionally, but that's it.

Keep telling yourself that (it's what I do:D)

Never a dull moment on the "bay". For every 3 successes I usually find a "mis-fire". Today's hat is the "mis-fire" sort of. ;)Okay, so this hat was pretty good bargain. As you can see by the box this is supposed to be a Stetson in a size 7 1/4. Cool looking black hat. Upon arrival this is what I find, yes a black hat, however in size 61cm, and it's not a Stetson. But, man is the felt ever so nice on this hat. I really like the feel of this felt so I put a couple spacers in it and may continue to wear it.....2 1/2" brim & 4 3/4" crown......hmmmmm.:rolleyes::rolleyes::confused: Plus, it closely resembles new-to-me Black Stagecoach Conversion.

Borsalinos often run on the small size so maybe just a size or size and a half too big? If you like how it fits when shimmed I’d wear the heck out of it; it certainly looks good on you. If you aren’t happy with it it should be very easy to unload...maybe at a profit too? 7 5/8 hats bring more than 7 1/4.

I Can't be sure of how old this is from the blocking tag or liner but I do kinda like it, even if slightly big. Plus it's from Bernie Utz's who I believe just recently closed up shop there in Seattle. A little bit of nostalgia to it now too. If someone PM'd me an offer....I may be inclined to sell or trade it. Otherwise I will stick in my rotation and wear it awhile.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The current production Como looks much the same. I agree that the felt feels nice - a little mushy in the one I had, but I kept it for some time and wore it for travel and occasions where I didn't want to worry about hat abuse. The one thing that bothered me was the edge of the sweatband where it was sewn into the felt. It was a hard seam that irritated my forehead. Might just have been the one I received via mail order. Maybe a good that it fits a little big.

I was looking at that one too, mostly for the amazing liner and sweat. Maybe check in with Justin on treating the leather sweat? It looks like it needs some mink oil or a little attention to prevent dry rot. It is right on the edge....

These Sovereigns/Steson 20s are super sweet. Having one is probably enough for the collection. The hardest to find in my opinion are the pre-plastic liners.

All the guys on the board seem to love the Sovereign liners like this one, so you probably can't go wrong. I would advise waiting long enough to find exactly the one you want - color, style, etc. There are enough every few weeks or so to be patient. If this is the one, then for sure take it!!!

Daniel

I've been looking for a Sovereign for a while. This one seems really nice and clean.

I have been using Pecard Antique Leather conditioner. Would that prevent dry rot, Daniel?
What is dry rot? Let me look it up.
I am with Ignacio right now, BTW. He says hello

Good to know Alan, the sweat in this one is very very soft, I put it on and tried pushing it against my forehead and moved it side to side. No rubbing or irritation at all, the seam is soft and flexible.

Give my best to Ignacio! Tell him we are trying to take him international!

Dry rot is a condition where the leather is already decomposing and will come apart into pieces when you wear it. I have read Pecard's is pretty good, Justin posted that he goes with mink oil. I have used mink oil with great success.

If you go with Pecard's post your results!

Pencil rolled Portis. I was intrigued by some pencil-rolled hats that were posted lately, so when I saw this one, I placed a bid. The sweat says it's a beaver blend.

Max, I like that hat a lot. The roll looks great, but the entire hat looks nice and well-balanced. The way it’s set up it looks a lot like a wide brim homburg (another favorite of mine).
