And this is one has arrived from Netherlands a couple of weeks ago but I just had the chance to post it :) Vintage Barbisio in grey (I would say caribou grey, I see some brown undertones) with overwelt brim finish and invisible stitching.

The felt on this one is very thin and pliable. I keep it as open crown and crease it just before place it on my head, wonderful feeling ! Thanks Stefan for letting that one go :)

So it took me some time but that's the second part of this scandinavian exchange :) Steve was so kind to send me his 1959 mayser for my attaboy. I changed a bit the crown to a center crease to give it some height and here we go View attachment 180356 View attachment 180357 View attachment 180358 View attachment 180359 View attachment 180360 View attachment 180361
The felt is just gorgeous! That's my first Mayser and back bow hat :) Thanks Steve I like it very much !
Oh my, you have brought that Mayser to life, Panos. I just couldn't make it work for me. I kept it because I loved its look so much. It was hard to let it go, but I'm happy to see it's found its rightful head.
I'm also glad to hear that you're now in the Mayser and the back bow appreciation club [emoji4]

I've been so lucky picking up hats from the Facebook Market Place this summer. I'd never even considered it before, now it's my go to hat check place.

I met the sellers and picked up two interesting early last century hats today.

The first, this ca. 1920s/30s Bowler. Made in Belgium, sold in the little Danish town of Nakskov.

It's a very stiff felt with a very nice sheen imo.

I bought it because of its historic interest. It's a velvety felt, Portuguese Soares Silva & Duartes hat. They were one of the 6 Portuguese hat companies that joined forces in 1969 to create the FEPSA hat co. due to the decline in the hat buying market.

This one must be pre that date. Probably 1950s I'd say.

It was imported to and sold in a hat shop in Denmark's 2nd largest town. I particularly like the size label in 4 sizes. USA, English, French, and general European.

I like that size tag too.
I'm sure the color had absolutely nothing to do with you pulling the trigger.

A Dobbs Game Bird arrived today. It's from Canada, a velour, and ribboned rather than a felt self band or any variety of braid/rope. It's stingier than I prefer, but is a fantastic color (#34). It's chocolate, but also has a purple cast. Very nice.
The sweatband is satin over leather. That's a new one on me.

A 3x Stetson Western in a cinnamon color with matching 3 ply skinny ribbon "showed up" too.
I love it when you put one on, say DRATS! because it's awful snug, then find shims behind the sweat!

The second was this ca. WWI, very probably pre WWI, silk top hat.

The box is a joy to behold. I can translate the Danish another time.

One of the icings on the cake, along with the hat box labels, was the satin polisher pad.

Very cool hats, Steve. Always nice to find a new source to mine for hats. Wonderful company display on the box. I noticed they mention both Christy and Borsalino there (upper left corner). Those velvet cushions work wonders.

Good to see it gets worn, Panos! As it was meant to be. It is Barbisio at its finest: enjoy.

Thanks, Stefan. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with these two.
Yes, the emporium where the top hat came from sold Christy and Borsalinos. It also claims to have the largest assortment of English hats. The label inside says their workshop can modernize an old silk hat and make like new. They offered fittings of mourning veils, too. A super cool box full of history.

Borsalino Donati 1 R.jpg
Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 6 or 7 3/8 US but it is less wide, so more a 58 7 1/4
There is no paper label because it was cleaned too much by the shop where it was purchased and it lost the Borsalino data
Borsalino Donati 2 R.jpg
It is part of a Borsalino lot I decided to restore in the Penumbra hats atelier - Netherlands. I was intrigued by the very rare color of the felt. It was cleaned and repounced to give back the original color of the felt and the result is fantastic
Borsalino Donati 4 R.jpg
It was made, from the seller indications in the late seventies, early eighties.
Borsalino Donati 3 R.jpg
The measurements are: brim at 5,5 cm. crown at 10 cm. Plain felt and very malleable and light in a color that could be “Miele” or "Albino"
Ribbon is the original. Made in the historical Borsalino factory in Via Cento Cannoni - Alessandria
Borsalino Donati interno R.jpg
The interior is completely clean and ready to serve again.
A Borsalino as new in a wonderful color after some excellent work made by Fleur
