What do you all think about this woven edge grosgrain? I’d rather have the finished edge stuff, but can’t find various colors and widths on the web. Does anyone know where I can go to get some?
I plan to sew brim binding on this one, too, but want the right ribbon.
I could use the polyester ribbon but would rather not. I’ve found a way to force the poly to bend around the brim without puckers, but cotton/rayon would be best.

Nice one Randall. I've had to use Petersham on a few as well, as the vintage stuff is limited. I don't think it makes that much difference, hard to even notice unless you are way up close and looking for it. I think you are already using this place, but the best selection of vintage I've seen. It's also nice how you can sort by width, material, finished edge, etc.

It's not so much the suffering Stefan, it's the freaking frustration. It takes so long, it's not intuitive, and most of all not easy to navigate from one followed thread to another. Sigh!
However, you guys are worth it
Stick it out brother. Polite, friendly people like you are in short supply.

Thanks, Panos. I think the felted edge (Cavanagh) seems to be most common.

Bowen (@AbbaDatDeHat) has a few Gorasgus, each with a different edge. Maybe he could treat us all and do a side by side by side showcasing the brim treatments. How about it, B? ;)
Here you go @Panoz, J, et al:
Not really shy, just lazy. Here’s a quick pic of the Gorasgu guys. Not all diff edges but unique somewhat. One ribbon edge the other’s Borsa overwelt i guess.
Tough to get the sparkle out of the two hairys on the right. Bottom R. is “Silchi” in Avorio, top R. is “Angora” in Agata.
Of note, i believe Eric’s Misto (friggin gorgeous) yesterday was a Gorasgu?? as well, and i think Mike @Redfokker has an Angora in blue and i’m sure Alan has some. They are popular!!
Gotta admit i do like Gorasgu. Great proportions and quite a few versions.
Prob outta put these in the Brotherhood thread sometime.

Well, shoot. I either forgot or didn't know about that fourth on the bottom left. Looks like a mid ribbon too to boot! Time to search the archives.

You know they should be in the brotherhood. Think of DOS and get punching! Fabulous hats, all of them, Bowen. The agate takes home the prize though.

And then there was Alan.
I could beg for this hat!! Just seeing it from time to time helps but the void is infinite. I would love to compare this one to the best Stetson 100 and i think i know which would come out on top. Pic #3 is divine!
Thanks for sharing again Alan.

O goody goody. I think I saw that one on offer, but didn't bid in the end (not my size). Great hat, Héctor.

Huzzah! Great to see you back, Steve. Killer outfit.

Very cool, Terry. That wider ribbon suits it very well.

Hmmm, that's nice, Max!

Well, inside with you then! Protect that hat!
Thank you steur!

Dunlap Supreme Space/Weight

This Dunlap Supreme Space/weight As it’s name suggests has a rather light weight thin felt. This one has a stingy overwelt brim at 1 1/2 inch and a 4 1/2 crown as bashed. It does not have the neato Dunlap/Champ Space/Weight liner or pin... nor do I think it ever did. It has a single sided bow which I think I had only found on one other of my hats. I’m sure it was a cost cutting measure but it Makes a sleek one piece look.

This one arrived with a tear in the back of its crown. I attempted a repair on it which did not come out too bad

Thank you B... it would be an interesting comparison to feel and then to describe in words. Borsalino hats from this era are sublime in many ways. I don't know that they (or other European makers) ever competed in the high dollar steeplechase with Stetson and HCA 40s, 50s and one-hundreds. The moldable clay-like quality of the high end American hats was a different aesthetic to the Borsalino soft feel felt. This western felt is beautifully finished (as you can see from the photo) and has lovely softness. It takes and holds a crease very well but does not have the same crumple as a 7X Beaver Stetson, the best of which dent like a thin piece of lead sheet metal. I think we could spend a pleasant couple of hours comparing and discussing which maybe someday we will have the chance to do.
