50’s half belt CXL Steerhide... I bought it in this condition.. I doubt it wore out this way organically..

I reccommend starting here: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/highwayman-zip-sleeve-highwayman-database.99955/

Note that every batch of CX Steerhide, just like CXL Horsehide will vary slightly in thickness. It's a handmade product from a varible size horse or cow, so there will obivously be differances batch to batch.

There is also varibility to "teacore" verses "dyed through." I presently have a CXL Steerhide Highwayman sourced though Carrie at Thuston Brothers, in United States Stockist for Aero leathers. It's is much closer ot the leather used on Vanson jackets as Competetion Weight Cowhide. It is thick, stiff, not very flexible and taking a long time to break in. It's featured in the thread I linked in here.

I would be more concerned overall with the fit and dimesions of the jacket. Reach out to Thurston's for your first one, if in North America, do a Fit Jacket with her, and save yourself tons of frustation, money loss and agony by getting the fit right the first time. I do not get paid by her to say these things, it's just the truth. Enjoy the process and the hunt!

Damn they all look so good. Still somehow more tempted by the heavy steer, that teacore looks amazing. Not what i expected. I thought the whole jacket would turn brown but i was obviously mistaken. But the FQHH also looks amazing... Does the CXFQHH also show wear quickly?

Dang, too bad i live in Sweden. I don't have the option to try one on. Buying things from the US has never worked in my favor.

Mine has a pretty thin black top coat, and it’s showing brown in some sleeve creasing after 3 months or so of wear.

In the future i'm getting an aero, and the one that i feel is the best choice is a highwayman. I typically prefer black jackets, as i wear black boots and dont really like too much wear show, more common in brown shades. Does anyone have any pictures of a black highwayman? Preferably in the heavy steerhide. But anything works.

HeyZeusPenguin, I'm curious how u came to the choice of a Highwayman cos you had initially preferred a trucker jacket?

I'm your earlier posts, you mentioned this is going to ge your first jacket and your budget is in the $350+ you might want to consider the advice given here:
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/new-custom-aero-sheene-winning.92698/page-2#post-2359723

I was very keen on a beautiful brown highwayman until I was told it was not a style that would suit my slim build.

I rather advice that you should wear clothes that you want to wear with the jacket, measure yourself well, sleeve, shoulder, back length, belly, chest and waist. That way you can narrow down the style that would suit you. It's easier to then find a black jacket that matches your built.

For your budget a 2nd hand Aero, Vanson or Simmons might be a better option.

Hmm. I dont recall that. I already have a leather trucker, love it, but I will sooner or later outgrow it. I actually found the Aero pioneer a couple of days ago and it has everything i was missing on the highwayman. Sometime in the future im planning on getting an Aero that i can have practically for the rest of my life. My budget is not limited to 350$ and i dont recall ever saying that, i think you may have seen me commenting on a post where the OP said that 350$ is his budget. The pioneer is 700£ and its not that bad for such a beautiful jacket.

Hi HeyZeusPenguin,

My bad as I got u confused with another poster. The pioneer is a really cool looking jacket in fact the moment I saw it i was reminded of the jacket Leo wore in inception sans the chest zip pockets.

I'm still searching for my everlasting jacket too but I'm more inclined towards a travel jacket closer to a Maxwell / Klondike than a zippered jacket.

Cheers and happy hunting

The top pocket on the Maxwell - an unzipped open pocket - is the most useful one I've had on a jacket. If I can get a couple of jackets shifted, I'm thinking about something in battered tan with that arrangement, or a Mulligan with the flap pocket. Selling is the first priority, though (want to get down to three in total- Maxwell, CR and HWM- before I consider anything else...).

The Highwayman I have is in brown, although all the ones I've seen in black look equally fantastic, especially with red tartan linings. I got button cuffs, which I also think work really well on this pattern.
