What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

I think we don't see enough Stetsonians. A bit under appreciated Stetson model. Great hat, Charlie.

A two hat day today. Huber Velvet and a woolie Beanie my eldest daughter just knitted for me.
I think I'll stick to headwear with brims from now on. Fez View attachment 273842 View attachment 273843 View attachment 273844 zes being the exception :)
Trying to remember the feel of the felt on the Huber. As I recall quite something! You know fezzes start off as knitted beanies, don't you, Steve? Well done by your daughter.

Today sunny Sunday with a pleasant temperature to make us the less bitter pill of the new restrictions in force from tomorrow to face the new wave of Covid.

In the garden of my office I thought about wearing an antique Barbisio sold at Max Eckard shop in Berlin
View attachment 273846
The hat probably survived the Second World War
Lobbia Barbisio - Rex black felt of exquisite workmanship and super elegant finishes
View attachment 273847 No date printed on the back of the sweatban, alas!
View attachment 273850
There is only a tiny print that barely reads anything, but it's not a date. The hat arrived, some months ago, from Germany practically new, despite its age.

This is my follow up to Steve update of Huckel pre war hats thread:)
Have a nice Sunday!
A Barbisio and a lobbia: how can I not like that? Wonderful, Daniele.

Here is my latest. It's a Northwest Hats spiral stitch brim in a "coffee" beaver blend.

Cool, Bill. Not something we see every day.

Wrapping up the weekend in the Mallory Director:

Thank you, Johnny! I bought it to show @steur
I was afraid you were going to do that:)
Great hats and outfits, Reggie. Really like that herringbone jacket.

I realized looking at these photos that this Black Sheep Hat Works Vintage Duplex creation is a bit too dressy for the beach. But, that's the only place I go.

I think it works perfectly for the beach, David. Very cool.

Went on an early morning milk run in a bitter cold wind this morning. Had to trot out the Italian Cashmere overcoat to brave the cold. I re-blocked (shaped) my early to mid-1950s San Francisco Hatter fedora. This little odd ball has some interesting dimensions, the crown is kind of short and brim of 2 1/8" It shows that all kinds of hats were manufactured in the 1950s to suit different men's looks. I saw a guide for hat store clerks from the era that showed what style goes with different face/body shapes. I don't follow these rules... This one wants to have a center dent with pinches, no other crease works. Also wore my Johnson & Murphy Sheepskin Oxfords.

Coat, scarf and hat all excellent, Mike. Any excuse to bring out a cashmere overcoat works.

Borsalino Caesar Qualtia Speciale - Coffin Hat
Monlov with Bulgaro ribbon
4 inch crown as shaped
1 1/2 dark brown (Bulgaro) grosgrain ribbon
1 7/8 brim with double stitched overwelt

A Borsalino coffin hat at a price I could not pass up. This one a short brim Caesar Qualtia Speciale. The felt is a sort of grayish Milk chocolate brown called Monlov which I have seen described as taupe. Depending on light it shifts between greys and browns. 1 1/2 ribbon Bulgaro Chocolate brown ribbon. The manufacturing label points to late 1960s to mid 1970s. From the looks of the original photos of this hat it was going to need a lot of steam to get it into shape. But a few minutes of working the felt by hand I managed to whip it into a reasonable shape. A bit of steam would smooth out some of the wonky spots for sure. This one has found its way home.

Neat find and impossible to pass up for the price. A little tlc will get it back to glory. Nice one, Joe.

Today, I taught the kids the difference between a fedora and a pork pie.
View attachment 274040
Lot’s of the kids thought my fedoras were cowboy hats and some of them thought this Bailey pork pie was a magician’s hat!
You have important work to do there teaching those kids everything about hats, Gary!

Dog soirée in the dark this morning. I took no pics in the cold pitch dark morning.

Home this later, 9:00am, morning I can see the sun! Wow the sun! Shortly ago I went out to fill the bird feeders. An un-lined 30-40's Borsalino was my hat choice.

Cheers, Eric -
That has my knees going all wobbly, Eric. Incredible.

A compadre to Eric's old Borsalino, this bombetta which lives the next phase of its life in the U.S. thanks to our generous friend Daniele.

View attachment 274346 Finished sewing the original ribbon, bow and sweatband back in this dark blue Dalton. I’ve posted the hat before when it wasn’t complete. I was able to dye the original ribbon back to its uniform blue color. It had faded quite red in places from sweat and wear. Didn’t think it could be fixed but it surely did. That may be the finest Dalton I have ever seen!

Very nice work and hat Randall, perfect outcome and looks sharp as.
Thanks, Silver-Wolf.
And @steur and @Blare and @Just Daniel !
And ALL the likes, thank you.
This Dalton was an all out restoration to include a re-dye and I’m very satisfied with its outcome.
Been very busy with a host of other refurbs, as well.
I’ve learned so much in the last year, but feel as though I’ve learned little compared to how much there is to know.

Been enjoying your American hat show, Stefan.
Love your fine Wormsers best...I think. I’m such a sucker for wide brimmed, wide contrasting binding!

Good to see you smiling and posting with some frequency again, Mike. Has there been some progress regarding your back?
Thanks, I'm planning on being a better member here, really miss this interaction. I am back with the living again, had a double lamenectomy back operation in August of 2019. Totally took the pain away! I thought that now, 2020 is going to be my year! Not so much... My landscape does look much nicer this year though. I have been my wife's personal "houseboy". She is still working (from home), and loving not having to go to campus.
