Wow! You have some serious skill at finding some great vintage hats. These C&K hats are at another level!

https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/crofut-knapp-tales.41837/

Thanks, Brent. But I don’t know how much talent it takes to hit the buy it now button. :)
Just a lot of time spent scrolling and a lot of money!
But you’re right. These C&Ks are on a different level than other hats, for sure. The felt is crazy nice and the color combos are unique
You are posting some amazing hats all-around this week @Randall Renshaw ! The Crofut and Knapp hats are killer! Especially the grey/maroon/salmon back-bow. Wow!

Yeah, who’d’a thought those 3 colors would look great together?
Mr. Crofut and Mr. Knapp, I guess.
Oh my...

Killin' it as usual, Randall!

Thanks, Jonathan.
No doubt I have been blessed this entire year. At least something good happened in 2020.

New hat and new display stand/hat rest.

Finally finished turning the hat rest/stand, simple enough job when your an able bodied person - but all good fun regardless.

This I think used to be an Akubra Balmoral as it looks so much the same as mine, no idea but was crushed and cost $2 at garage sale & with a dozen empty pots (garden stuff). Nice buy, no sweat band but I got a couple old damaged leather ones I'll use and the wife was off again making another custom bow/ribbon...

$1.80 in ribbon and $2 = $3.80 gardening hat 'n a bit O' fun

My Snowy River arrived yesterday. I gave it a steam today to try and flatten out the bumpy rim. That was not entirely successful, but I did give it a pinch in the front of the crown (I believe this originally had a pinch, but it was all but gone on this hat.
I then took the iron to the brim and was pretty happy with the results. The bumps have been significantly reduced and aren’t really visible when it’s on my head.

At some stage during the process, the Akubra pin went walkabouts. It’s somewhere in the house, so I guess it will turn up.

Size-wise, it’s shrunk more than expected. It’s smaller than my size 60 vintage stylemaster. I have to decide whether to keep it for myself or give it up to my wife.

Gonna have to take the risk of being considered a thread hog, because I don’t know if there’s a Crofut and Knapp thread, so I’ll just have to post these here. Hard to wait to, since these two new hats are sweet! With hat boxes!
This is how they looked when I opened them. View attachment 275145
And this is how they look after a little steam shaping. View attachment 275158 View attachment 275164

A back bow that I’m going to keep!

All others I’ve seen were WARs on pork pies, but this one is 1 3/4” and looks pretty good to me. Always thought they looked effeminate, but this Knapp is just too nice to mess around with. Even left the brim in saucer mode. The wide binding on bottom and more narrow on top dictates that this should be an up brim, but I have to fight an urge to snap this 2 7/8” brim down, which it does so well!
The brown one has a 2 3/4 brim and “Guild Edge” Embossed on the sweat that matches a Dobbs stamping.

All of them look great, but that blue and white bow is killer!!
The bug that bit your wife has turned her into a sewing super hero!
I’ll say it again: You Lucky Dawg!

Like the wolf pin, btw.
Does she make those, too? :)

I love it, it's pretty cool I think, I only showed her/did one ribbon/bow with her and bam, she's done 5 and they all look better than what I can do lol and I'm not complaining it's a win-win hahaha. I'll tell her your kind remarks though as she does enjoy the kudos and I think they are awesome myself. She is very talented and crafty, I got her a pyrography hot pen kit yesterday so she can do wood and leather burning and drawing.

I'm wondering if I can get her once she's got used to it, to make me some custom leather sweatbands with artwork burnt/etched into the bands. The Wolf pin/brooch sadly no lol, she did buy the first couple local somewhere but she just gets them on eBay these days (from a local seller)

I must remark on how amazing that re-make custom of that Adam you did, that is mind blowing cool and a real stunner. Fantastic work and good choice on that hatband. It really pops with those lovely colours, very good taste and love your work.

Fantastic

Many thanks, she's a beautiful woman and oh it's so much fun using a Jiffy... So much easier oh and it's a bit late but happy anniversary for the other day Joe. Looks like you both enjoyed yourselves and I'm glad you didn't loose that lid in the ocean hahaha. Aren't we lucky to have such wonderful women/people in our lives

Two absolutely great catches, Randall. Congrats. They suit you so well, too.

Wise choice in keeping the back bow. They're an icon of a bygone era.

Get her to learn how to use the pen to burn images onto the felt. Rand's Hats has a guy that 'paints' on felt with his pyrography pen. He does amazing work and it is not all that expensive.

Burned in artwork on a hat band is a great idea!
Can’t wait to see it.
And thanks for the kind words about the Adam.
