Thanks Reggie. The coat is labeled Juster Bros, one of the premiere menswear/sporting goods stores in Mpls. Quite likely manufactured by BW Harris in St Paul. Harris was one of the pioneers in this storm coat design. They seem to have been popular from the mid-40s to the early mid 50s. They were generally made from a wool and rayon blend gabardine. Early ones had a shearling lining, but most models had an alpaca pile lining, as this one does. Mouton collars and lapels. I understand that Nixon wore a BW Harris model on his visit to the Great Wall in China in 1972, I'm very fond of the style myself and I have one by, if I recall, Lakeland, in a tan gabardine.

Thanks,
Michael
Very interesting. It looks warm, and it definitely has a lot of style. I remember my father had a similar type of coat hanging in the closet when I was a youngster. I wish I had it now.

New topic for the week starting on Thursday. A tribute to the hatter Fleur of Penumbra Hat who has been taking care of my hats for at least two years and more.
View attachment 285839 Reported to me by Stefan she has become my point of reference for the restoration, cleaning and manufacture of new hats.
View attachment 285840 I really appreciate her simplicity and her reaching the core business even when the hats seem "lost".
Today I show you one of her creations in which nothing is left of the old / new hat.

Interesting felt of a new bought hat of uninteresting Italian manufacture in his hands became this: new shape and size and new ribbon have given this Kent (original name) new life

Max, when Ignacio cleans, is it a full bath or a good steaming/brushing, or something else?
When it is a full cleaning he immerses them in percloroetileno, known as "perc' by hatters in the US. It is used by dry cleaners, but is forbidden in California, along with white gas, I understand.
I've been told that perc is "nasty stuff" but a very good cleaning solvent. Ignacio has been using it for 50 years, with no ill effects.
This particular hat wasn't too dirty, so he just wet a white linen rag with perc and rubbed it on the felt.

Yes, perc is great but nasty. Dry cleaners used it for years. It's also used to wash parts in factories.
