I saw this on FB, texted Shawn. It’s premium goat but he said he’s got some thick steer in 1.5-1.6mm coming soon for his TFL friends. Smooth and grainy.

I'm curious what's going to be added as he mentioned stiffer leather too.

from what I learned
leather is pressed to get denser and stiffer, same thickness let say 1.5mm can be soft because it is not pressed, but can also be dense and stiff because it is pressed from a thicker hide to get 1.5mm output. but when pressed usually the natural grain is lost at least when new it will look smooth, while less pressed leather sometime still have open pores from hair follicle and more breathy, pressed leather is also have more consistent thickness across the hide, while less pressed will have more variation in thickness across the hide.
I bet the grainy hide would be soft, and the smooth one will be stiff.

That makes sense, I personally prefer a leather that's a bit stiffer. I was hoping the steerhide will be stiffer like Shawn said but that's not the case. Love the thickness but I wish it had a bit more personality and, with the soft hide it's not going to show as much.

I'm curious to see how my Cafe Racer made of goat will be. The ones I've got of goat so far are already quite stiff.
