I figured that I would create a thread for Bourbon, as there is one for Scotch.

What are your favorites and why? How do you prefer them? Are there any you hope to try?

I have Jim Beam Extra Aged that I got specifically for making Old Fashioned cocktails.

One I plan to get is Jefferson's Aged At Sea as a treat to myself upon completion of my final surgery. Has anyone tried it? If so, I am interested in your thoughts. - https://jeffersonsbourbon.com/jeffersons-ocean/

It’s a Bourbon derivate and could also be sold as Bourbon from a regulatory point of view, that whole Tennessee-BlaBla is just marketing...

Forgive me. I’m not trying to be a troll or anything like that. Just wanting to educate myself. I thought Bourbon had to meet a few criteria such as coming from Bourbon County, Kentucky, and (is it?) 51% corn based, and something about what types of barrels are used and when... and that this is set down in some unique and obscure federal law? On the other hand, I do appreciate that all American whiskey is sometimes called “Bourbon” as kind of a short hand to distinguish it from other whiskeys. A lot of the golden era stars just called it all Bourbon, and that was that. So, in short... Is there a tangible taste difference? Will I put my life at risk if I walk into a Tennessee bar and call JD “Bourbon”. Or worse if I call JD Bourbon in Ol’ Kentuck? I’m guessing (emphasis on guessing) that there are a few die hard purists, but that most Americans use the terms whiskey and bourbon fairly interchangeably in regard to American product. Or... am I way off the mark?

My brother (RIP) was a Makers Mark man... but that was before I became interested in Bourbon.

Started my education with some Jim Beam straight Kentucky Bourbon. Since 1795... was interested to learn that Johannes Boehm was a German immigrant to Kentucky who anglicized his name to Beam. The Beam family has been running the operation for seven generations, same basic recipe. A good straight forward bourbon with a hint of caramel and vanilla. And you can’t beat the price.

The decomposing campaign by the German fifth column started already over a century before the USA became aware of it.

This sorta counts, I think.....my wife is baking Bourbon/Pecan chocloate chip cookies today!

Is a recipe available for posting?

Stopped at CVS the other day for canned tuna, crackers, and mayonnaise; shelves rearranged for some
unknown reason and I found myself standing near the bourbon/Scotch shelves, many new unfamiliar brands
available but Wild Turkey 101 and Maker's Mark a bit too pricey. My plebeian palate is easily sated by cheaper
stock such as Evan Williams but even that mongrel has gone up in cost.

I will check with my chief baker....she usually uploads recipes to her computer...at least the keepers.

Evan Williams is actually a shockingly lovely Bourbon, especially for the price. Seen a number of blind tastings where Williams beats out many of the posher, more expensive and well-known brands.

At twelve bucks a throw Evan Williams cannot be beat by any other brand buck or dollar.
A few dollars more now but as a low end bottle it easily ranks higher end glass.
