Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

True about the asking price, but ask yourself what would you rather have a pristine original or an ELMC reproduction
The original always wins IMHO! I’ve tried a couple Vanson versions of this jacket (not as nice as the ELMC). I don’t think either holds a candle to the original piece. The ELMC looks too flimsy and the Vanson isn’t cut right.

TM has really run all that down. Really depends on the year, model, etc. Can obviously be determined by label, but also the leather and some of the design cues.

Connecting the Makers with the Catalog jacket labels is an ongoing project. Some of these connection have been made going back to the 1930s. The "Made in Cali" labels need to be broken down to Who in California. Some just say "Made in the West". Who in the West?

I do have some answers to Who, What, When and Where. These makers are confirmed to have produced jackets for the Catalogs.

Fried-Osterman of Milwaukee-Sears

California Sportswear Company of Los Angeles-Sears, Montgomery Ward

Pristine, I believe Jackjunkie sold one of these in our size for $450 in TFL classifies last year

I bought one from Rockabilly, must be the jacket you are referring to.

The current ebay jacket is a "1st Edition" with the light lining and the side strap adjustment. I have a later edition with the quilt lining and gathered sides. I also owned an ELMC reproduction that was the same as my original. It was a great jacket, but I kept the original. I believe mine may be a size 46.

This is quite an opportunity to own an iconic vintage jacket. This 1st edition one looks to be in excellent condition. These are no nonsense heavy Horsehide jackets.

If it were a 44 I would have a bid down. The light lining and adjustable side cinches makes this the one to own. I would guess this jacket will end up with at least one bid, Mine?

I have never seen this Grais label. Probably their oldest. This jacket has a 30s Triple Marked Talon Sunrise Zipper proudly displayed. I don't think I have ever seen a Grais with this zipper or this age. Absolutely cool and very small.

Looks like everyone woke up and saw this little gem. I have a similar looking Seattle Woolen jacket around this size.

Looks like an Olympic Ring Talon pull too. Just a bit of icing on the Cake

This auction just ended. I was bidding. Did any one here buy this jacket? thanks

Super cool back design. This will be similar to my next FL cross zip jacket with a through belt. Are those studs there for design or to help add support to the seams?

Unless I’m missing something, design. The studs on my Sears and Wards jackets are not that close to the seams, relatively speaking. Probably to keep the seams strong.

Thanks for clarifying, love the design of it. I like the look of the attached belts but only for when others are wearing it lol

They can get in the way sometimes. The nice jackets are considerate, they have a snap to attach the buckled side of the belt to the jacket in order to keep it in place when worn loose.

Attached or detachable Belt? I've got both. I know there are a lot of missing belts! I have jackets with the sewn on belt removed. Which are more often seen?

How do people wear these jackets?
