How I love trenchcoats, but I could never buy something that remotely resembles the black trenchcoat that's synonymous with The Gestapo. This example looks nothing like that:

Well, not a jacket, but some new gloves. I took advantage of the Vanson sale this weekend and ordered some new "x-ray" gloves. My rottweiler chewed my other ones up. I originally ordered the x-ray ones with the gauntlets. Once I tried them on, I could not zip up the glove OVER my jacket, not even close. I returned the gauntlet style and got the "roper" style. The roper style was just OK. They tend to let some wind in when riding. My rott took care of those and I figured I would give the gauntlet style another try. Worse comes to worse, I would just ride without zipping the zippers.

Any of you guys ride with Vanson gloves? Just curious about your thoughts? I kinda wish they had some "lined" gloves for temps under 50 degrees.

On a side note: I talked with Kim from Vanson. I asked her about their current leather choices. She said they have the comp. and z leather, but no x. I told her my last model E seemed a little "rubbery", and I asked if they were still looking for a tannery to source their comp weight leather. She said that leather is getting harder to find, tanneries are closing for good and no new ones are opening up. It sounded to me like they are going to roll with their current comp weight leather. I wish they would give Horween a call.

I also ordered some of their leather conditioner. It claims to be all natural, no silicone. Very interesting: Vanson recommends conditioning brand NEW leather. They also recommend treating your leather 3 times a year.

I placed my LL order at the start of the month. When I asked about how long it will take, I was told that this is their busy season and quoted production time is 10-12 weeks. I’m used to waiting for custom jackets by now, so that’s not a problem.

Thirteen days later, it just shipped my way!

Now I know why they call it the Lightning!

Same here. Order placed July 30, shipped today. Just got the news. Much quicker than expected...

Y2 jacket arrived in both a 42 and a 44. I think I’ll be keeping the 42. The 42 is a little snug in the elbows when bending my arms. It also gets a little tight across the back when I move my shoulders forward. Both those issues should relax with wear. I wouldn’t want the sleeves to be any shorter as they’re almost too short but manageable. Some quick pics. Collar is still up as I haven’t decided 100% which to keep and will debate for the next few hours before returning one.

42 does LOOK better to me too in these pics as long as you feel like you can wear it.

That’s always been my experience. Every jacket that I’ve returned because it was a bit too tight always looked awesome in pictures. It is only when one tries to move or breathe deeply that’s the problem begin.

Very nice. Is there mutton inside the cuffs by the wrists? If so, most likely a Cal. Langlitz has a distinct pattern on how they stitch the bottom part. You can compare to other photos of Langlitz. Cal is more like a closed square and Langlitz is like an open box.

Beautiful version with the padding and all that. Excellent. Welcome.

Cal. Are the zips YKK? Is the hide super thick but pliable? Then a more contemporary version. What are the measurements of the 42? Cal sizing is a bit ad hoc as you move out of the 70s. Beautiful. I would love to own that jacket.

If it’s a true vintage one then I am truly jealous. Talon main zip. Then you are going back in time. Serval/Conmar, way back. Would love to see better pictures. You know who to message if you ever want to move it on. And welcome to TFL.

Edit: Based on the front pocket pulls, if they are original, I’m leaning full into contemporary (last 30 years or so). I have one that isn’t padded. They are amazing jackets.

the only thing that's making me pause that it's not a Cal is the belt straps are the "right" way and not the usual reversed Cal way. But I don't know if that's just a vintage thing and the newer ones have it with the snap on the top piece. that liner definitely screams cal, the weave belt, and just the overall vibe.
