Took delivery of this Himel Kensington a couple weeks ago but with the stifling heat here in the Southern USA and my first newborn baby girl, I just haven’t found the time to take good fit pictures and give a review of my experience and the jacket which this forum and its knowledgeable members deserve.

I really can’t say what an immense resource you guys are.

I remember when machines were able to sew 1/4and 3/8. I loved my singer 112w115. I gave it to a nice Tijuana gentleman who did all the leather work on my centerboard speed demon sailboat. I assisted him in completing my project. The knowledge I got from him was invaluable. I love the double needlework on your jacket. The quality of the detailed work is top-notch. The space between the perfect needle penetrations shines and makes the jacket shine. When you get a chance, please share the fit images.

I’m not a stitch guy but anyone who takes even a cursory glance at that will notice how well that’s done. That’s impressive! Beautiful hide too. Looks sumptuous and good enough to eat!
But more than anything welcome to the ‘hood. Being a daddy (as the old army recruitment ad would say) “is the toughest job you’ll ever love”. Congrats all around man!

This leather is the Black Oak Steerhide he used on random jacket collaborations but never came fully available on his site.

People might wonder why choose that when he is known for the Shinki horsehide, I asked if he had anything not advertised and he mentioned this combination tanned chrome/veg leather with a pull up effect and since I doubled down and ordered 2 Fields Leather jackets when I first arrived at the lounge which will both be Shinki since that is Ofcourse all he carries. I figured why not experience other leather options for variety.

I will surely share fit pictures when I get someone to take proper ones because I love reading you guy’s reviews with pictures and I wanted to reply everyone’s help with my own photos and reviews as my form of contribution
I fear too many probably pick everyone’s brains and when they finally get a decent jacket they disappear, not on purpose but more of a kind of mission complete. I’d like to stick around an learn more and now that I have my Cafe Racer itch scratched, it’s time to graduate to a good half belt. You guys that wear them look so classy, it makes me reminisce about movies set in the 30’s to 50’s where men were true gentlemen and people seemed to take pride in portraying that image.

Thanks for the warm welcome to fatherhood, I’m a little late to the party. Just turned 40 so I was kind of on the George Clooney plan and had one late in life. Nothing like it, it’s amazing how I went from not caring to have my own kids to not understanding why I didn’t have one earlier. Life is full of surprises.

The Stitching!!! it does seem to me to be about as good as it can get, stitching isn’t a dealbreaker but I’ll admit I do appreciate a well crafted jacket, even just admiring pictures.

After my first attempt at a Himel Kensington not fitting, which also had good stitching. I wasn’t quite ready to spend full price on another Kensington so I tried and failed to order a Lewis Leather Super Sportsman but it fell through because of some staff issues on their part so sadly I had to get a refund.
Point being is though I do appreciate good stitching, like you and it’s not a requirement because obviously you can look at a Lewis and see it’s constructed similar to a Schott.
I just wanted a well designed, well built jacket that fits.
In the end there are plenty of members that look better in their Aero jackets than their Freewheelers just because they fit better and nobody outside of us OCD guys here are going to notice anyway. So great stitching isn’t necessary for a great jacket.


Honestly the only thing that made me spend more on the Kensington than an Aero cafe racer at half the price was that I was really obsessed with the double stitching and piping/welts on them along the main zipper and sleeve zippers. Like I mentioned, just a strange obsession, a small detail that sets it apart. ELMC does a great one too but the measurements didn’t work.

I honestly thought it was teacore shinki. I saw good grains, blackened brown, and given the brand. So it’s safe to say it’s very good stuff!
But more so I noticed the double stitched welt pockets. And along the main zip. On a very simple design these subtle small details makes a world of difference.

It definitely looks similar, good grain out of the box, though It feels different, a softer hand than the only Shinki (a black pigment finish) that I have handled.
He told me it was chrome tanned then vegetable re tanned which I thought would be perfect with the sudden rainstorms here in Florida.

The Shinki was somewhat stiff in comparison and I could see how it would mold to the wearer but this feels almost broken in already.

I really want to feel the oil finished Shinki now. I’m already picturing myself in a Frobisher made from that.
On the other hand My wallet is picturing an Aero halfbelt.

If it fits, it will be a case of my late night insomnia actually leading to good. Out of all the iterations of this back configuration, this one is up there for me. Somehow looks, I don’t know, classier(?), than some of the others. I like your HB versions because imo it makes the jackets more presentable when not MCing.

Yep. I need to check my photo archive, but think I’ve seen this back configuration on some old MW Perfecto-styled jackets, but not with this front configuration. It caught my eye.

That faded CHP is ridiculous. I talked myself out of hitting the bin on that one. Too faded I said. Big mistake. What a beautiful jacket.

I totally agree with you on the toned down/understated back taking it into the non MC realm. Its a real Gentleman's Vintage MC CZ!!! In the old catalog ads, its all these generic fatherly looking dudes smoking pipes etc. so they were at least marketed toward the mainstream. This could be worn by a smiling, pipe smoking, fatherly looking Caucasian man with heavily pomaded hair wearing a shirt and tie.

These are fabulous leathers. Fit is short and to the point. I've got to pay more attention to the backs! I've seen the two linked above. I get confused, I can't even keep my stuff straight.

That Steerhide chip would be a good fit on you. It is a little big on me. I will keep in mind. I have seen another recently.

If I had seen that I would have bought it. On the rebound I went fishing and caught a surprise. The big surprise will be the fit. The measurements don't match the tag size. One is possible the other is not.

I did not ask any questions or make an offer. The pictures were some of the best. Way too cool to let it sit around. I don't think it has been in a thread here, I don't think it has been around long.

I'm stunned. In my collection this will be big even if too small!
