How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

I really like this model. I had been toying with the idea of one of the regular 30s Halfbelts in a different hide (I'd owned a couple in cxl fqhh before now), but I'm now very much leaning to one of these instead. I believe it's the same pattern, but with buttons instead of zips as the main fastener and chest pocket closer.

How is the size on the chest pocket - is it more for decoration like the zipper on the slim halfbelt, or is there a bit of useable space, like the one on the Highwayman?

Not sure on the Maxwell but the chest pocket looks about the same size as the one on my Shackleton. Which is surprisingly just wide enough for the iphone. I have some with very deep pockets that swallows the whole phone and some with shallower pockets that only leaves about 1/4 of the phone out but still functional. It was always a surprise to me when I put my phone in those tiny chest pockets.

I got a msg from Aero about 2 weeks ago stating the jacket was approved for production and has gone from the cutting stage to machining stage as of this past Friday. The site had noted that the current production time is 8-10 weeks so I estimate I may have the Jacket in mid to late October which is fine.

I've wanted an Aero Type III for some time to go along with my other Type III jackets (Vanson, Schott & Iron Heart) and will soon have a complete assortment. Depending on how this Aero Type III works out, I may jump in for a Type III in the natural vicenza in the future.

Good choice! You'll love it. I'm good with the 557XX and blanket lining myself.

Thanks for your reply and image posting. It appears that your Type III is a size 44 - the same size I ordered! You chose the Black Vicenza which looks really sharp! I provided the requested measurement info and hope the jacket will fit specifically in the chest area. I am a 42-43 chest and selected the size 44 based on other measurements I've seen on TB for the same style. I don't want the jacket too snug so I think I selected the right size instead of going for a 46 which I think would be too big.

I consider the Aero Type III to be a more attainable Iron Heart Type III (I have one in black XL (42)) - once the Aero arrives the comparison will comence!

I've not checked it, but for me it will likely be for decoration as I prefer to use the inside pocket. I very much like this jacket.

I like an open, chest pocket like that as a place to stow gloves. Depth would be the thing there rather than width, I suppose.

No, the Shackleton is lined to the edge, like an A1 jacket.
I upgraded to the wool lining instead of the cotton lining. And they are quite warm and very versatile. I know Aero marketed them as mid/outside layer like a jacket to be worn over a thick wool sweater. But I use mine strictly as a mid warming layer under the jacket/coat and over a dress shirt. There are four very useful pockets on the Shackleton. It can fit a lot of stuff. It may be small but packs a lot of function, more functional than most of my Aero jackets. If you are a vest guy like me, its worth to check it out. I would also stay with the wool back too. It's warmer and makes better shape with the darts. I think the Aero melton wool is about 18 oz, with the 16oz strome wool lining the Shackleton out performs my 24oz Filson vests easily. Plus it has a leather facing so it's just looks cool.

I got notice from Aero today that my Type III is on its way! I placed the official order on 8/18/22 and the arrival date based on DHL is 9/19/22. That sure is a quick turn around from ordering to receiving the jacket. Of course I don't have it yet so the wait begins. I've read of various stories about any additional charges based on how the item is handled and who determines what the that charge may be. I guess I'll get some update from DHL if there are any assessments before delivery. Then again, maybe I'll get lucky and the jacket will breeze through the customs gauntlet without a levy!

I will certainly provide the requisite images upon arrival of the jacket next week!

The type three should be within the 800 dollars limit and so you won't have to pay any duty. Not sure if you have any state sales taxes though.
I have to pay province / state taxes for my netflix subscription now. Taxes... It's less than a cup of coffee but hurts so much.

Thanks, yes, definitely up for one of these. The one thing I'm still in two minds about is the wool. I'm looking at it as something I'd be more likely to wear in a 'vest as outerwear' manner when it's too warm for a jacket. I'm not fully wedded to going to a leather back, though I'm somewhat leery of the wool, both for heat issues and, well, it's just one more thing I have to worry about moths with.... If a sturdy canvas was an option, I think I'd prefer that, with cotton lining. Definitely I can see the point of not going leather all over in order to maintain the shape of it. I'd love a black and a brown one, though I can see a real danger I'll want one in cordo too....

Thanks for your input regarding duty/fees. The jacket had an OTD price of 615 bp (about 709.00 USD) including the shipping charge so I will hopefully have a nominal fee to forfeit. I understand DHL acts as my agent when processing a package through all the hoops to get it to me so the outlay (as you stated) should be minimal. Not sure how the state tax component applies in Virginia but we have a 5.3% sales tax so that hit will be quite modest if assessed.

Ahh. Moths. I start to see them a lot now. This is their most active times... Keeping wool off the ground will save it from silverfish but moths fly...

How about goatskin backing or something that is soft enough so they can still do the functional darts across the arm holes. The darts and the small bottom side vents on the Shackleton makes it fit a lot better than other vests. Other vests have a "hip pop" look and the Shackleton has the tailored look. I think a softer/stretchy hide like goat could work for the Shackleton back design. Freewheelers uses moleskin as lining instead of wool. Aero's moleskin is same high quality but they are asking for £15 extra for moleskin lined sleeves now because material increased cost dramatically. I am not sure if silverfish / moth larva eats moleskin or not. Seems to be just wool. FWIW I stopped murdering spiders in my house now. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I hang my wool now and been having a much better result than in the drawers.

You should be good. If anything DHL would charge their flat documentation fee which is $25 or $35 depending where you're at, and the State sales tax. There might even be a chance where you won't get charged anything at all because there is no duty under 800.
Aero Type 3 is a good jacket. I got myself one during their last stock sale. It used to be 800 pounds for the blanket lined one. I remember paying about 600 something pounds for the sale page stock one.

Cedar keeps moths at bay. I use cedar blocks attached to a hanger loop in my closet. The scent is not enough to make the clothes smell like a hamster cage but it does keep the moths at bay. I also use garment bags for wool jackets when I"m not wearing them frequently.

yeah I got those cedar blocks too! Cedar blocks + hanging has been quite effective for me for some time now.
It totally blows when there is a small hole that turns into multiple small holes on the sweater. The holes can get mended by skilled seamstress though. But still a pain.
I may still consider a pet spider just in case. Or a moth eating cat.

Just arrived. Wanted to flip 'em or something but these turned out to be waaay too cool. Germany or Austria for sure and my estimate would be 1950's, judging by, well, everything. Leather is very stiff and very thick and I know it's not really possible to tell but I'm fairly certain we're talking horsehide here.
Fully lined in cotton drill. They fit me perfectly, too, which is always a good bonus when buying something very old like this.
In any case, I know there isn't much interest in leather pants but I don't suppose a few photos of such a nice, proper vintage piece of outerwear will hurt the thread (too much).
