Question about Aero interior pockets:

So… I received my battered seal Everyman today, and the interior pocket is so tiny I can barely fit my finger in it - let alone a wallet or phone.

Before I email Aero, can anyone tell me if the dinky pocket is normal??

Any product recommendations for restoring shine and oil to deerskin? I tried some chamberlain leather milk and that hydrated the leather but it still looks kind of dull compared to before I tried to get the smell out. I have some obenaufs as well I was going to try.

horse hair brush and some elbow grease to polish after conditioning. Deerskin has lots of oil in them little light brushing will bring back the shine. I just did this to my deerskin La Brea and I pat myself on the back after the half hour long brushing. Now it looks like it just came out of the detail shop. Just like polishing shoes, jackets works the same but takes longer.

Yeah I prefer the finished back as I've heard sheepskin is already on the delicate side. I know that Aero and SB use North American shearling but I've not been able to find the black one for retail, only the cream/ginger skins from GH leather. And I would really prefer to avoid going through SB again.
Resin backed shearling material are very hard to find. I was looking for them myself too. The suede back ones can tear easily but the resin backed ones are very strong. Like the Irvin fur...etc.
If I cannot find the fur color I want but it's double faced resin back I might try to spray dye the fur side myself. If it comes down to that I will post about it but its a lot of work just thinking about it now...
If you are only looking for a replacement piece it's probably best to try to get your maker to send/sell you a small 2 sf piece. It's hard to source these at retail level.

Be careful what you use on Deerskin!
It doesn’t soak up the conditioners like horse and cow. Most stay on the surface and get gummy. A little bit of lotion or oil should be ok, but if it’s light colored Obenaufs will darken it. I used Skidmores on mine and it came out ok, but took a couple of months to dry. Forget Pecards. Chamberlains didn’t do much, and Urad just top coated it with lacquer.

Tell me about it! I just spent much of the day polish off what I put on the damn deerskins! no Harm no foul, just tired arms, both of them.

Is the FEW Bill Kelso?

I asked BK Andy straight up in an email if he was Japanese and he didn't answer me. I am not mad I am just curious. The Few was ran by Japanese expats in NZ right? How was their jackets? I see them commanding a higher price on the used market than the younger ish brands like FCL, Y2...etc.
I think my only shot at getting an petrol Badalassi jacket is the Few A1, used of course. The BK replacement seems to be a different shade of color. Or are they the same jacket same maker different tag?

That petrol badalssi is such a great hide - I would love to get a jacket in it but so far my search has been in vain…..if Aero or Field Leathers ever got a batch in again (both have used it occasionally in the past I gather from a few archive photos I have seen) I would be all over it, like a rat up a drainpipe! Badalassi is one of my favourite hides but that petrol colour just takes it up to another level again. A Trucker in it would be amazing, for instance….

The Few did their A-1 in Ortensia Badalassi. Petrolio is darker. Andy from BK is Greek- not Japanese and never worked with The Few as far as I’m aware.
If you are a 40, you might be in luck!

Ah yes - the ortensia is the one I like best - petrolio is also v nice, but that lighter shade of the ortensia is stunning and I bet it will age beautifully too! I actually have a custom pair of William Lennon boots in the petrolio badalassi, and these work well with my LL Super Sportsman in vintage turquoise HH - but a badalassi petrolio/ortensia is where its at next!

This guy was the owner of the Few. The owner of the Zero not the pilot. The Few closed down a few years back and Mushman has to find a different supplier so they went with BK.

Thoughts about this Fidelity? I know some of the members have (and had) this model.

Did Fidelity supply well-made jackets? An acquaintance of mine offered me one and I don’t know whether to buy it. Long torso, right?
Thank you! :)

I might have an opportunity to change my Aero order (heard a rumor that they weren’t happy with the dark seal Vic and decided to do a remake after seeing was completed).

I’m definitely re-thinking my leather choices, but also:

What is the name the name for the ‘lips’ on the zipper? I want to have an exposed verticals d pocket zipper like the RMC but words are failing me!

BTW, the A-1 is made by the Few but not at their NZ factory. It was made in Japan as they tried to keep the company going after they closed the NZ factory. My guess is the Few had to close the NZ factory because of the devaluation of yen at the time.

That's cool. I am still on the hunt for a The Few jacket but I have trouble figuring out where they have evolved to now.

BTW, Andy from BK did get back to me on my dumb questions,
To answer your questions, no we are not Japanese.
Yes, we make jackets for other Japanese brands but not the ones you mentioned.
No we don't have the same production schedule, we have deliveries all the time.

We made the Duke jacket maybe 10 years ago. It's an all time classic.

Anyways, thanks for the additonal info on the Few. The leather journey continues...
