Oooh, that's a really nice colour, Joe.

Nice!

Very nice, Brent. The brim seems a bit wavey though.

Well spotted. The hat is just a touch too small and it’s a standard oval and not a long oval to match my head. It’s too tight, as about 25% of 7 ⅝ hats are on me. My head shape and size cause the brim to get wonky when I wear it as the tensioning is thrown off. I think the underwelt exacerbates the problem too, but I’m sure I can back that claim up. I listed it on eBay earlier today: I’m not keeping hats that don’t fit me right. Kind of sad to see it go, and I sold its companion in tobacco brown a few days ago for the same failings. Absolutely wonderful felt and a real revelation on what Stetson can still do when they want to, but the fit wasn’t right for me.

I recognize the problem unfortunately. I have a few hats like that; blocked a bit too round and they go all wavey on me when I try to wear them. But I just can't let those go (yet).

A real touch of winter this week here in the low countries, which means frost and a bit of sunshine. What better weather for the velours. Let's see.

I’ve been doing well thinning my herd. With only a few exceptions, every hat that doesn’t fit right or that has some substantial flaw, or that I just don’t wear is heading for the block. I’m still adding hats to my keep pile, but they are no-compromise hats. My goal is to have nothing but hats I wear, that fit well, and that fill a niche.

I also have about 115 hats that are ready to be listed on eBay that I bought for the sole purpose of selling. I got to say, buying hats is more fun than selling them.

The Blum, Hückel, and FGM are the standouts…heck they are all fantastic. I like the proportions of the FGM and I can almost feel the softness of the Hückel through the photo.

Wow - I can see why you'd be sad to see that one go. I do understand about having a long oval head though. Some regular ovals actually fit fine, but others are way off - even within the same brand.

I've got one I that I need to let go of too. I love the hat but it had no size tag and was measured wrong by the seller. That stinks, but I agree it's better to let it go to a better fitting head.

As ever, decisions, decisions. You are right about winter, we have had a good deal of snow.
Being the flamboyant that I am, my choice is the Tonak Jota

Love it!

I'm not nearly as prolific a hat-seller as you, but I know what you mean. I'm pulling a few "just not the right fit" hats out to move on as well. Not too painful a decision when it comes to a silverbelly Open Road or clone, but tough on an only-one-I've-seen type hat.

Great line up of hats so far today gents! Keep 'em coming!

@Bill Hughes told me the secret to this is to steam and stretch them with a four way stretcher—the sideways stretch gives;) you the room you need to take off the wobble. Worked for me on the one hat with which I was having this issue.

That really looks like vintage felt. Is the era of Stetson doing reissues and special runs like this over?
