I tried to get Shawn to emboss something simple
Like the above into a leather tag at the neck. I believe this simply states “leather”.

He didn’t go for it. I think it would be so authentic but….what do I know.

I like the whimsy of your designs too.
is that urdu? maybe he is concerned westerners who he sells his jacket to would think its arabic and only see connotation it brings especially when it is written in white over black ribbon or patch.

You know it brother, hey these things are supposed to be sportswear right? We went down to our shooting range for some target practice today and i took some better fit pics in natural lighting.

What wrist width did you request for this? I ask because all my 5*s have very tight forearm/wrist areas. I’ve stretched them a bit but never seem to ask for enough material there.

Ok Gents, The CHL jacket arrived today and it is a major disappointment.

- First off, it took 3 business days to get from Sialkot to the US west coast. I was expecting an overnight service.
-second, the CHL leather is so soft that I was able to do a 30min weight routine without any major problems. I was hoping for the jacket itself to be a workout just by being worn. Well, that's not happening.
-The grain of the leather seems varied and full of strange patterns. I was hoping for something more uniform and generic.
-The color is not pink enough.

Anyhow, here are 2 pictures, I'll post more when the spite towards the jacket subsides and we can both move on.

I would say be glad it's soft and not hard as cardboard like the old CHL leather.
Thick and soft... there are worse ;)
Am curious about the fit pics.

By the way... what is CHL the abbreviation for?

Looks solid, hope to see some natural light and fit pictures once it arrives.
Did you ask to get the goatskin waxed up? I've ordered a button up half belt and asked for black waxed premium goatskin after seeing this photo (which totally sold me on the waxed version):

Will do!
Nope, wasn't aware of it. Any advantages/disadvantages on having a waxed leather jacket?

Here is a brief update and some fit pictures. In general, the jacket turned out great. It's a beast weighing in at 7.4lb (3.36kg), its stout but I would not call it stiff. The leather is pliable but it's thick so some movements may need a tad more effort. I actually did a 30 min kettle bell workout while wearing this jacket fully zipped and it felt fine. Only during shoulder presses, it felt like 5 to 10lb were added because of the leather drag around arms. I plan to wear it exclusively for the next few weeks and will get back with additional feedback.

The texture of the leather is great. Full of unique patters, some of them may be insect bites, scars or just freckles (maybe more experienced members can comment if that's not correct). At any rate, it felt like the animal lived a full life and, in some way, it gives this you a special feeling while wearing it.

The fit seems to be good. The jacket is form fitting but still allows for the sweater underneath. My only comment would be the shoulder peaks, but maybe it's a nature of thick leather jackets. Again, if you feel the specs could be altered to make it fit better, please let me know.

My last comment is about the leather consistency. The 2mm steer (I'll refrain from using the "C" word) seems to be consistent in thickness but has a wide range of texture. Attached are few closeups. Take a look at the dark spots, initially I thought somebody may have accidentally splattered oil on the jacket. But upon closer look, these may be freckles

I just sent this to Shawn to see what he says. This is definitely going to be my next jacket from Five Star. Hopefully as close as possible as to the Aero Trail Rider prototype here. In the same brilliant brown steer that @MotionDesign just got for his stunning new jacket. Also wondering if anyone knows if Shawn has any decent belt buckles besides the rinky dink ones he has on a lot of his jackets?

edit
how can i forget featuring the great @Marc mndt and his grizzly

PPS the labels continue to be a work in progress per the attached

Great, let me know how it goes. Btw, as already mentioned in this thread, when you put in a custom order with Five Stars, spec as many dimensions as you can. They are very good at replicating but don't necessarily think like tailors.

The racing flag lama logo is awesome :)

Hello All,
If anybody has had any experience with both the Goat Skin and Horsehide in seal brown. Can I get your opinion on what the major differences are and which hide you prefer the A2 in? Thank you in advance.
Cheers.

I have a G1 in seal brown goat. I like it although the finish had a plastic feel in the beginning but improved over time. I also used the jacket during outdoor workouts which sped up the breaking in process ;-)

Never had a horse in seal brown but just sold an A2 in pull up brown horse. The leather was great, felt like a step up from the seal brown goat. Here is the link.

I have an AN-6552 isn seal brown premier goat and an A-2 United Sheeplined in seal brown horsehide.
The goat has the more typical dark seal brown colour, the horsehide more of a dark chocolate hue.
The goat is more consistent, a really thick yet supple hide, full of grain.
The horse is far more inconsistent, areas of great grain and areas of smooth, dull and a bit plastic feel. Also thinner than the goat (they are both advertised as 1.2mm, there is no way these two jackets are equally thick).
I find the goat a better hide, however for an A-2 I'd again go with the horsehide; the variation in thickness, grain and feel are very close to original ones.
Both jackets exceeded my expectations in terms of quality.
Keep however in mind that both jackets smelled like a goat - not a goatskin but a living goat in its natural environment. It'll take some hours in the open air/sun.
