It is a big, beautiful, tall, full size hat. Brim is 3". Ribbon is 1 3/4". Crown is about 4 7/8" at the front, 4" at the rear. The open crown height is right near 6".
The brim is rather lopsided, and needs a bit of work, but the crown is VERY nicely shaped. Taper? HAH! This hat laughs in the face of taper...
There are a few minor moth nibbles, but only a couple that are just barely noticeable.
Ok, just got this off ebay. Here are some preliminary photos. The Sovereign Stetson Twenty, with the Mode Edge. I was told it was "willow green". I would call it a moss green, and it is easily the most magnificent hat I have ever seen.
What substance or process would one use to clean a hat. Primarily to get salt/sweat stains out?
It will be reblocked. I've been experimenting with that already, but I don't know how to really clean the hat.
Assuming I could scratch up the funds....I would buy my customized 40's-ish horsehide jacket from Johnson Leather.
I would NEVER buy anything from outside the country....particularly England (shipping), and more particularly, Wested.
No, I don't think I paid too much for it. I think I did alright given how nicely shaped and proportioned the hat is. Just about perfect. ;)
It MAY end up slightly too big for me (sometimes 7 1/8 fits, sometimes 7 1/4 fits, and sometimes neither fit!), but much better too big than too small.
Just "won" this last night. My first "vintage" hat. Did I pay too much? I don't know, but I do know it is the most magnificent looking hat I have ever seen.
Can't wait for it to show up...
$20-$30. I have paid $40 before. There basically is nowhere near here that I am aware of where anything vintage is available. If I want something, online is the only option. ;-)
